Recently, I decided I wanted a career in the medical field. I'm not sure which one I want yet, but I'm worried because I'm dangerously close to failing my freshman science class. Up until recently, I've been one of those kids that was just kind of gliding along in life, kinda wanted to be a rock star, and so my grades have been pretty average. I kind of goofed off in science since it's my last class of the day, and by then I'm just ready to go home, but now that I want to be a doctor, I'm afraid failing this class will stop my dream career from coming true.

The class ends on Christmas, so right now, I'm either going to fail, or if I can convince the teacher to let me make up some bad work, I'll be able to make it with a D. How important is Integrated Science I for medical school? I talked to my principal about it, and she told me doing badly in one class wouldn't stop me from pursuing my dream, but when I explained the situation to my guidance counselor, she seemed a lot more concerned about it.

It doesn't seem like it should be that important. Everything we've learned so far has had nothing to do with medicine or anything, it's just been physics (How fast a ball drops, f = ma, etc). Let's assume that I fail this class, but do good in everything else, how would this effect me when applying for medical school?

Freshman science is typically physical science. When it comes to medical careers, this class isn't majorly important. But, next year and so on, make sure you put all your effort into your anatomies, your biologies etc. because those will matter.

You have to go to college (in the United States) before you go to medical school. If you keep your GPA up and put forth your best effort from now on, it'll be alright.
