EDIT: Thank you Zephyr

Hello everyone,

my name is Mac, and I am new to the virtual teen forums.

I've known about this forum for a while but it is just recently something has happened where I need to ask a few questions.

First off, I have a girlfriend who I have been going out with for a year, and we do have sex every now and then. I have used a condom every time we have done it they have done their job. About three months ago, she went to the doctor about getting the pill, and she got her prescription. So she has been taking them for at least over two months. I have been using a condom even though she has been on the pill for that long just as a precaution and to make her happy because she gets really paranoid about getting pregnant.

Where things change, is just recently she decided she wanted to have unprotected sex. We did this and everything was fine. She told me that she has been very consistent with her pills so she is ready to do that.

Now, I take a drug called Minocycline. This is an acne medication that I have been on for about two years now, and so far its been successful in clearing my complexion. Anyways, later that day after we had unprotected sex I told my girlfriend about them and she wondered if they would work for her. So I gave her some to take over the course of a week to see if they would work for her. So she ended up taking two total, one that night and one the next morning. She got worried though because she did some reasearch and it stated that it effects how well the pill protects from pregnancy. So do you think that the amount of Minocycline she took (200mg) will have an affect on the other pill she is taking to prevent getting pregnant? By that I mean will it decrease its efficiency?

Thank you so much for your help!

I have heard that antibiotics can disable birth control pills. whether or not that is true, idk, but I've heard that. But, unprotected sex is a bad idea unless you are prepared to have a child. If you are worried, make sure to continue to use a condom and talk to a doctor or pharmacist if you are concerned.

How the hell could you be so stupid? You've been using them for 2 years didn't your doctor who prescribed them to you tell you a million times specifically not to share your pills with anyone? God damn it where do people get these ideas?....

There is nothing you can do hope your gf didn't somehow get pregnant thanks to this brilliant manevour you two performed. If she isn't pregnant great! And don't ever give prescription drugs to someone because they might ''help''

If she is well then its your & her problem

Do what fiending said, try to get a morning after pill.

They might mess with it, becuase they're both hormones. (The pills) If it's too late, then just wait and don't give her more. She needs to check with a doctor to see if they're right for her.

As for the morning after pill, careful because in the USA you cannot purchase the morning after pill unless you are 18 which is ridiculous, but law.

People I know usually got them from parents. Try a doctor, because they can still prescribe one.

Mac, there's a whole lot to say about this!

First, if she's on the pill, you're not having 'unprotected sex'. The Pill protects from pregnancy. However, your anxiety about sex and pregnancy would suggest that neither of you are really ready. Doesn't all that anxiety get in the way?

Second, sharing prescription meds is really dangerous. Just b/c it works for you doesn't mean it'll work for her. There are things to consider like the cause of the acne/if this is the right med for her, and the proper dose. Then, it needs to be monitored and assessed by an MD. Stop immediately giving her your meds!

Lastly, if you're worried about preganacy, call a Planned Parenthood in your area (look in the phone book). It's free, and confidential. They'll advise what to do.
