View Full Version : I fail 10:10PM everday....

I wake up and eat breakfest which usually consits of a bagel with cream cheese and a cup of tea. The rule is that I'm not allowed to digest anything until 10:10PM at night. I don't know, I fail at this everyday but it's my goal.

I usually don't sleep until 12 or 1 so I would be awake to allow the food to digest before I sleep.

Does anyone else do anything like this? SImilier in any way?

I have a couple questions. What exactly do you mean that you aren't allowed to digest anything? Meaning you force yourself to purge it? Or some other form of getting rid of it?

Who made this rule up?

I am not allowed to eat, drink anything. Nothing until 10:10PM.

I made it up. In hopes of losing weight.

You said you wake up and eat breakfast? You mean you are breaking "the rule" when you do that?

Well I suggest you do away with this rule. If you want to lose weight, which you probably do not need to, you need to do it healthy.

When you do eat, are you eating junk food? Candy, cookies, chips, fried foods? If so, you will be much better off to eat healthy. If you like candy, try eating less of it. Moderation. Are you getting exercise? Take a power walk, or a jog. Do some sit ups and push ups. If you are going to school and taking a gym class, work hard in that. You could invest in some work out DVD's. They have everything. Yoga, kick boxing, Tae-Bo, Pilates.

I only eat in the morning time. And past 10:00PM I have a dinner, full dinner. I used to work out a lot but was never getting the results I wanted.

I'm just learning how to ignore it when my body tell's me I'm hungry.

Making a time for yourself to wait for isn't exactly the best way to lose weight. Not only are you depriving yourself of food but you are also, like you said ignoring your body. Which you think is good, but if you eat things made by kashi and exercise regularly then you shouldn't have to worry about failing at 10:10.

First off, starving your body is not only unhealthy, it doesn't make you lose weight. If you want to lose weight, eat healthy foods throughout the day.

i wanna know too.

Look, i know what you're thinking. That we're all crazy, and trying to force you to not loose weight.

But, you have a serious problem. No one is going to give you 'tips' on how to do this.
I've been through this. Different, but the main problem is the same. Hun, not eating before 10pm is really really bad for you. It screws with your matabolism, and starving yourself is going to seriously hurt you.
Please try to get some help

I'm sorry, but everbody who's replied to you is right.

And on top of what's been said, eating [healthily] when you are hungry is more effect in maintaing a health weight, rather than "only being allowed to digest after 10:10PM".

I think it's to do with the fact that your body is preparing itself for food and gets ready for handling nutrients (burning the fat etc). When you starve yourself, your body starts to realise that there isn't going to be any fat to burn and holds to the [probably small amount of] fat that you already have.

Also, when you do finally eat, your body has found the opportunity to store more fat, just incase you don't eat again anytime soon.

One last thing... How does digesting after a certain become any different to digesting throughout the day? I doubt that you can actually be more active after 10PM then you are during the day... The more active you are, the better your food digests... So doubt that would work. Was there logic behind this or are you just hoping?

Do you have any idea what you're doing to your body whilst doing this? You're seriously harming yourself.

Here's the truth; when you have issues with eating properly like yourself it really messes up your metabolism. Then when you begin to eat sensibly and responsibly again you'll gain a lot MORE weight than what you started with. I'm sorry I'm just a brutally honest person.

Like somebody already said.. By the time you actually eat something your body will immideatly start storing fat and you'll actually get fat faster..

If you want to loose weight eat healthy and excercise right. The webs full of great information but basically most people who excercise fail because they do it wrong. Best ways to burn off fat is to excercise multiple muscle groups...

You see our body burns 60-70% of its calorie usage while resting.. 40-30% in activities. If you work out so that you use all the muscle groups in your body, your body will burn more calories while resting and so on and on.. Its simple and logical if you starve yourself your body goes into the '' Dear lord, Jenkins we're screwed! Get the wagons together and store everything we can! '' and you will see temporary results that will be nullified in weeks or even less dependant on your metabolism.

So eat healthy, excercise right.. If the problems psychological seek professional help.

I work out at night time.

Well you shouldn't.. You should work out as early as possible after waking up.

Yeah, you'll probably develop improperly if you starve yourself as a teenager and can have medical problems in the near/far future from what you're doing now.

I've heard that it doesn't matter what time of day you work out, day or night.
Cos if you think about it, there are night-time sessions available at the gym.

Just as long as you actually do it!

Your metabolism slows down when you sleep, eating late is bad.

Many days I don't eat breakfast or lunch, and dont eat until about 8-11pm. Its bad for you, and slows down your metabolism. I'm not trying to lose weight :P

if you actually want to lose weight, then you'll do it the healthy way (especially because the healthy way actually works!)
go to the gym every other day, eat three balanced meals a day.

& btw its better for you if you work out in the mornings

Instead of starving your self you could try doing about 15 push ups and 15 sit ups each morning after you get up, when you get home from school and before bed.
go for walks or other stuff that will get you fit.
Eat more healthy food's not junk food.
make sure you eat

I did this and I still do.
It's a great way to stay fit and loose weight instead of starving.

Plus at your age you should not be worrying about your weight and more on nutrition and eating.
Because if you don't eat then you don't have the energy to make it through the day.

You don't have to listen to us. We are just giving you some tips and helpful advise.

This is not the way to do it.
You need excersise and you need to eat 4-6 small meals throughout the day.

Ah, this tactic...

There are two sides to every story. Everyone knows that if you eat more, you weigh more, and if you eat less, you weigh less - in theory anyway. This is kind of true, and kind of not.

If you don't eat anything - if you're staved - for an entire waking day, your body will not gain weight. Your body may even start burning some fat if you exercise for a bit. However, aside from it being unhealthy, voluntary starvation is quite an act of discipline. In fact, some forms of meditation rely on fasting because it takes so much discipline. That basically means that it's not at all easy and many people will break from it if they allow themselves to.

As many other members have already stated, starving yourself will also bring your metabolism to a screeching halt. You will feel less energetic, and you will become very hungry. This happens for several reasons: (1) your body will notice the lack of calories/energy that you normally intake, so as a survival technique, it slows the metabolism so that you won't burn all of your reserved energy as quickly; (2) you normally digest many many different vitamins and minerals that actually help give the body energy, and without those vitamins and such, your body will not be able to burn fat as well (meaning you feel less energetic); and (3) you are meant to eat, so your hunger drive will go out of control for the first few days of starvation.

If you start starving yourself, yes, you will not gain weight simply from doing so, but whenever you eat again, your metabolism will be slowed down so severely that you will gain every ounce of the food that you eat. Unless long periods of time (weeks at least) are gone without eating or drinking anything with calories, the body will gain back all of the weight and then some. I definitely do not suggest you attempt anything that long of a duration, anyway, as that is very unhealthy.

The only reason someone should go starved is if they are voluntarily testing their discipline (i.e. meditation) or if they are forcefully starved by nature (i.e. being stranded on an island). The human body can go weeks and even longer (depending on a person's body fat amount) without nutrition, but it's incredibly unhealthy and it brings the body into a starvation-mode where it tries to gain more weight, rather than lose it.

If you would like to lose weight in a healthy fashion, I suggest eating smaller portions of food five or six times daily - like snacking, but without the unhealthy snack-foods. This curves hunger and actually increases the metabolic rate in a normal body. In other words, if you do something like this and exercise, you will burn more calories because of a faster metabolism. You will also feel more energetic, so you'll be able to do more to burn more weight.

Forming healthy habits is the key to losing weight.

you must eat 3 meals a day ... i mean it all depends on what your eating and how many calories you are consuming anything between 1000 - 1200 is healthy enough if u needing to loose weight don't go below 1000 as it will make u tired and poorly xx

This is not a good way to lose weight. There are much better, and safer ways to do it. You can't need to lose weight that bad.

What all the others said is valid. Starving yourself is bad.

Unfortunately, my school schedule doesn't allow for a lunch break all day, so I just have a big breakfast, then snack until dinner at 5pm.

I tried something like your method when I was younger (I'd eat one sandwich for lunch and that's all for the day), and as soon as I'd start eating normally again I'd put up the pounds like nobody's business. I dropped from 190 to 165 in 2 months, which is a huge drop and is very unhealthy. I then went from 165 to 210 pounds in another 2 months or so (to put stuff in perspective, that's from slim to beer gut) once I resumed eating normally again. Not only that, but it took me much more time to really feel energetic again. I lasted two months on one sandwich a day. That's not even 500 calories. All I did was eat my sandwich and drink water.

So in resume, I lost 25 pounds in two months, took 'em all back and put on another 20 after 2 other months. Do you think that's a fair trade?

It's kind of a vicious circle because your body gets used to it and you won't feel hunger so badly after a few weeks of that, making you think it's okay. But it's not.
Wait until you're satisfied with your weight and lay down the diet. You'll gain weight on so fast you won't even see yourself fatten.

Now that I have a much more stable eating schedule (even if not perfect, I do have 3-4 "meals" a day : breakfast, snack 1 early afternoon, snack 2 late afternoon, dinner, and I definitively get around 2000 calories), I've began to shave off the pounds with some exercice. Sure, it's much more slow than not eating, but at least now, on the days where I do have time to eat lunch (like right now, on vacations), I won't put up 10 pounds when I have to go back to school. Plus I feel much more energetic and much more in shape. I want to do things, whereas before I had to be dragged out of bed.

I went from 210 to 183 in around 6 months, eating my fill of (healthy, though I lack vegetables since they make me puke) food and exercising. I'm still a little fatso but the beer gut is gone.

Take it from someone who tried what you do : it doesn't work.

You hold onto more weight if you dont eat 3 meals a day
