Thats not the first one i've seen, it's just an example

It seems like mods are randomly loosing the colored name/mod face
But when you check their profile, they have it
why?

It's a modification of the traditional postbits. Basically, a moderator will only be shown as a moderator if he or she actually moderates the forum that their post is in.

I got such a fright when I saw this when I logged on.

Good idea I suppose

It's a good idea, but I don't think it's very good. Moderators should be able to be seen across the whole forum as mods can still put people in their place in a forum they don't moderate if need-be.. and without the moderator face, there's a change they'll get ignored. It's also just confusing.

I kinda miss seeing the mod faces with noses all the time.

i agree with you. mods should be known as mods even when outside their own forums. say that theres a new member, and hes not playing nicely. now the only staff member online is someone from P101 forums. now since he isn't recognized in the TWPR as being a mod (or someone of authority) and he tells the guy to be nice and to play well together, well he dosn't heed any attention to the mod and then slams the mod like he was everyone else. you get the picture.

^ exactly what i was trying to explain lol.

With the face or not, a moderator isn't much use in a section he or she doesn't moderate because he or she doesn't have any power there. Remember the only moderators that have authority across all forums are global moderators. Moderators only have power and authority in their own sections.

If a moderator can't sort something in a section they can't moderate, VT isn't going to crash and burn if for 25 minutes there's a problematic thread.

Again, do not confuse global moderators with moderators. If we wanted moderators to deal with problems globally then we would cut the moderation team in half and just have global moderators only. It would be pointless to have section moderators if they were intended to work across the entire forum.

I agree with that. And although moderators can still inform newcomers of certain rules, members can (and have) as well. If someone does not have authority in a specific forum, then he/she will simply be recognized as a regular contributor to activity and well-being of that forum. For instance, if a new member started posting advertisements in the HQ, and Jared and Tegan responded with statements similar to, "Don't do that. It's not allowed," then the member at fault would see both Jared and Tegan as active long-time members and nothing more. If the new member gets an attitude with either Jared or Tegan (or both), then I would see to it that the new member is properly dealt with, as there's no call for such disrespect. The point is that while Jared is a moderator and Tegan isn't, I wouldn't treat the two (or three) cases any differently.

I'm not a huge fan of it either. But hmm i could get use to it.

Well, I don't think it is going to be changed but basically the point of it is evident and makes sense.
I am not a mod in this section so I don't look like a mod in this section.
Simple ;)

But why do all the mods have the same status? "VT Lover"

Bobby
December 3rd, 2008, 10:35 PM
I don't. Just depends on the number of posts.

Because it's a custome title and they haven't/cant change it maybe?

and, not all of them. just the ones with the 2500/5000 face. Take a look at autumn for example, she doens't have 1000 posts yet, so her normal face is orange

because they're still mods. and when your a mod, you cant change your title. because it says moderator in the forums they moderate, and cant change it from that, so when they're in another forum they don't moderate, they're portrayed as A VT Lover by default.

i think thats the answer. complicated to explain.

it's a fucking awesome idea. I don't know how many times I've asked a mod for help and they wern't a mod for that forrum. This will ease a lot of confusion. It really doesn't matter if a mod is the only one on if they don't have control of that forrum, so it doesn't need to be spread site-wide. Also, I don't think a spammer really gives two shits wether or not a person is a MOD or not

Okay, the titles thing goes like this.
So as you get higher in posts (a guide can be found in the VT Quick Guide linked below)
you get new faces and new titles that are displayed under your name.
However, when you have a different position such as Moderator or Counselor, you will be portrayed as such with a different title and different face just as if you got to the next highest level of posts.
So when you get above 2,500 posts you automatically get the title "VT Lover". Considering that most staff has a considerable high post count they all have that defaulted when they are not a mod in a particular section.
We are not allowed to change it because then it wouldn't say Moderator in the sections we do moderate.

^^ Not me, I still have the 500 face. :P It's changing though, soon.

Good explanation though.
