New York, NY (AHN) - A Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (WMT) worker was killed when a crowd of unruly shoppers broke through the doors to a store early this morning in Long Island, New York, the local police official said on Friday.

The 34-year-old male worker was trying to hold back the crowd of around 200 shoppers at the Green Acres Mall in Valley Stream, N.Y. before the doors were opened at 5 a.m. EST, the time when he was trampled.

"The safety and security of our customers and associates is our top priority," Bentonville, Arkansas-based Wal-Mart Stores Inc., the world's biggest retailer, said in a statement.

According to Nassau County Police Department spokesman Michael Aronsen, the man was pronounced dead at the hospital an hour later after the reported incident.

The police have considered it as an "undetermined death" as the investigation continues. The officials said an autopsy is likely to determine the exact cause of death.

"The safety and security of our customers and associates is our top priority," Wal-Mart representative Dan Fogleman, was quoted saying by ABC News.

He added, "Our thoughts and prayers are with them and their families at this difficult time. At this point, facts are still being assembled and we are working closely with the Nassau County police as they investigate what occurred."

Police said four other people were hurt in the trample, including a 28-year-old pregnant woman. She was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors said her baby was fine.

The store remained closed to incoming shoppers after the incident was reported. The shoppers in the store were escorted out with their purchases.

In Canada we have boxing day directly after Christmas
I've NEVER herd of it becoming violent or people being trampled
I've gone out a few times on it but I live in the middle of nowhere so I usually can't be arsed

I knew somebody would get trampled to death today.
I just knew it.

That's too bad.

I don't think you understand what black Friday is. Its the day after thanksgiving and its the start of the Christmas shopping season. There are sales everywhere and these people trampled this wan because they were stampeding into a Wal-Mart for sales. (if you understood this im sorry. I dont mean to sound arrogant)
Its a very awful thing. Are some bargains worth this. Rally! It makes me sick.

This doesn't surprise me one bit.

Yesterday at Penney's I got there at 3.30am and there had to be 50 people piled up at our doors, that was Penney's Wal-Mart had to be a nightmare, or Toy's R' US, yikes!

The sales aren't worth that.

Right, so I read another article on this and it was amazing to me how this happened. Like, its just terrifying to imagine.

The article I read mentioned a bit more about that actual event. Like, appearently, the man was something like 6'5" and 270-pounds so this was a BIG man. Also, he died of asphyxation. He suffocated to death under the glass doors. Its terrible

It's sad what people will do just to save some money. I camped out with my brother once at Best Buy on black Friday and they didn't exactly come CRASHING through the doors and running everywhere. It's just sad....
