Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Paste - 3.5 Grams
8.00 http://www.frozencpu.com/thr-16.html

Total = $1347.88

ok, i have a budget of $1500
Should i add on anywhere, take off anywhere?
I will be gaming, but not hardcore, and i will be using it for websurfing, making websites, flash animation etc.
And is everything compatible with eachother?

Skhorpion

take out the OCZ thermal gunk and get Arctic Silver 5

you can get it at www.frozencpu.com

DON'T get the 6600NU. Get a 6600 GT at least, preferably a 6800 GS...

Kiros
December 3rd, 2005, 01:29 PM
At least a 6600GT (which is what I have)

That'll keep your computer running smooth with practically any game :)

But if you can, then a 6800GT because of the optimized core clock & better hardware independent rendering.

Skhorpion
December 3rd, 2005, 01:31 PM
or you can get an X800 and pwn nvidia

nwshc
December 3rd, 2005, 05:32 PM
ok, looking good.
last think is am i going to have any compatibility issues between hardware and hardware, and hardware and software?

Skhorpion
December 3rd, 2005, 05:58 PM
no

Kiros
December 3rd, 2005, 08:04 PM
I'm not doing any checks because I trust kid's decisions... except his sick ATi fedish :P

Skhorpion
December 3rd, 2005, 08:10 PM
everyone knows that ATI can beat nvidia any day of the week

Kiros
December 3rd, 2005, 08:39 PM
That's not what nVidia showed by coming out with the next-gen card months before ATi even thought about it :P

Skhorpion
December 3rd, 2005, 08:43 PM
ATI came out with crossfire months after nvidia came out with sli and they apparently cared because it has better performance, more features, more flexibility, and more stability

Kiros
December 3rd, 2005, 08:48 PM
It only has more flexibility

And what would you expect months later lol

Skhorpion
December 3rd, 2005, 08:52 PM
more features = crossfire supports like 8? monitors while SLi supports two and even so its buggy

as said earlier dual X1800XT beat dual 7800GTX

how can you not think ATI > nvidia

Kiros
December 3rd, 2005, 08:54 PM
As the 7800 was released so much earlier too. Plus, the crossfire is the buggy one - not SLi. As showed with DFI's spectactular example. Never seen that happen with an nVidia chipset

Skhorpion
December 3rd, 2005, 08:59 PM
it wasnt the chipset that killed the DFI board

it was a switch that put way to much impedance on it

DFIs folly there

Kiros
December 3rd, 2005, 09:03 PM
Like I said, haven't seen nVidia's stuff mess up quite as badly :P

Skhorpion
December 3rd, 2005, 09:08 PM
still it wasnt ATI's fault

their chipset works fine

DFI screwed that up

Kiros
December 3rd, 2005, 09:16 PM
Riiiight... excusses :P

Skhorpion
December 3rd, 2005, 09:42 PM
pfft ur just mad that ATI pwns nvidia every way possible

Gothic_Knight
December 3rd, 2005, 11:08 PM

Skhorpion
December 3rd, 2005, 11:12 PM
is there an nvidia equivalent of an all in wonder card?

Kiros
December 4th, 2005, 03:23 PM
Dunno, does ATi?

But I do find it funny how you're bashing nVidia's technology when they actually released SLi about a year before CrossFire was out AND they came out with the 7800GTX months and months before the next-gen card from ATi was released. ATi probably just reverse engineered nVidia's card and drivers and put in something else to make it look different, and slapped an ATi logo on it - after jacking up the price, of course.

Skhorpion
December 4th, 2005, 04:50 PM
pfft ATI has All in Wonder cards while nvidia has what? they have nothing similar to an AIW card

ThePhantom
December 4th, 2005, 09:16 PM
its the 'choice of gamers' for pretty much every fps that i would play if i had an nVidia .. but i CANt seeing how im on an old ATI card on my laptop . . i have a gForce ##### something ready for my pc im building .. its not speecial but it will get by

If it wasn't for the yield problems..but that's all behind now.

Skhorpion
December 5th, 2005, 05:04 PM
of course it would

ATI made it

Kiros
December 5th, 2005, 05:53 PM
Riiiight :) Well now that ATi FINALLY came out with a next-gen card, nVidia and ATi can actually compete. ATi nor nVidia will let either surpass one another, that's just how the market works.

Skhorpion
December 5th, 2005, 06:12 PM

32 pipes on a 90 nm process would kill a 24 pipe card on a 110 nm process.

Anyway, as far as performance goes, GTX 512 wins. But performance for price in the highend would be the X1800 XT

Skhorpion
December 5th, 2005, 06:55 PM
64 pipes on a 90nm process dual core pwns all of the above

Don't be ignorant. nVidia had ATi surpassed, and what did they do? Wait 6 months and released a card that surpassed nVidia. Now, that ATi finally got up to speed, nVidia will release another card that will make ATi look like child's play. Have you ever picked up on this? This is called competition. nVidia (and I'm sure ATi) could release a card so powerful that it would be envied for years, but then it would cost way too much, so companies gradually increase performance and cost. It's the way of the market - get over it. And even though ATi finally picked up on correctly rendering OpenGL, it's still slower than a GeForce 5's rendering

Kiros

I know this is a double post, but it's climatic, so it doesn't matter...

OK Kid, you straight up want the details? This article was published Dec. 1st, so don't complain about it having wrong details.

Like I've said all the time, nVidia pwns ATi! (clicky) (http://www.gamepc.com/labs/view_content.asp?id=h2k5512&page=12)

BTW, the first link is to the last page, having the conclusion, so you can read the entire atricle if you want by going here: nVidia VS ATi (clicky) (http://www.gamepc.com/labs/view_content.asp?id=h2k5512&page=1&cookie%5Ftest=1)

And if you don't like going straight to the source, here's the last and final paragraph for the conclusion: In conclusion, nVidia certainly has a better overall product, but it also costs quite a bit more as well. If you’re willing to drop the cash on the 7800 GHz 512 MB, you’ll be treated to the finest graphics card on the market. The Radeon X1800 XT 512 MB (at around $600) is nearly 25% cheaper, but does not perform quite as well and is a bit louder under heavy loads. It's a tough call in terms of price/performance, but if money is no concern, nVidia would be our choice.

So kid, you were saying? :)

Skhorpion
December 6th, 2005, 01:03 PM
you can replace the fan with a quiet one and throw that sucker on Crossfire and pwn the crap out of anything else

Kiros
December 6th, 2005, 09:28 PM
Yeah, if you wanna break it, and void the warranty. And it might be able to pwn anything from any other company, except nVidia. Even with it's faulty crossfire. :)

Skhorpion
December 7th, 2005, 05:46 PM
are you kidding me

modding and voiding warranties is awesome
