There was a rule that new members must have 10 posts to be able to post links. Is it still here or is it gone now?

Well that's definitely not in force any more as I've seen some posts with new members advertising.

If it's not working them it's possibly a mod that wasn't re-installed or not compatible with an vB upgrade. I'm sure an Admin will get it sorted.

Err... Yeah, it was uninstalled to ensure stability with newer versions of vBulletin. I'll see if there's a new (or at least a compatible) version.

Pardon the double post...

I have found the old modification that we used to have. Instead of reinstalling it right away, I want to get your opinions.

The old modification would allow the user to make the post, but the entire post would be replaced with a message that we set ("[POSSIBLE SPAM] ....."). I imagine that this frustrated a good bit of new members that were trying to make a meaningful post.

I have found a newer modification that will not allow a member to post a link (even an email address) if they have less than 15 posts. I assume that this takes the member back to the post editor so he/she can modify it, and then post it.

Now which do you guys think would be better?

The second one...

I too have seen instances where newer members were trying to make helpful, useful posts, but they got it deleted with the [POSSIBLE SPAM] message.

I don't think taking them back to the post editor will hurt, and it'll discourage spammers from even posting the links, maybe.

the second one its less embarrassing and frustrating you just cant post a link instead of losing you're entire post

I like the second one it's less embarrassing for them.

Second for sure.
It's less embaressing and frustrating for them, and it makes less work for the mods. :-)

I wish I could agree with that :P

It was solved quickly after it was reported, not as soon as it was actually ineffective.

That's, that's a good point.

Unfortunately, we have this currently disabled because we found a compatibility issue that it has with an important modification.

I'll let you guys know when/if we will start using it again later.
