View Full Version : What size clothes do you wear?

Triceratops
November 7th, 2008, 04:52 PM
I know some people on this site come from different countries so the clothing size guides are a lot different so I'll just refer to my size through the UK clothing size guides, if that makes any sense.

I'm UK size 8/10,
a size 10 in clothes such as jeans, shorts, dresses, skirts etc.
a size 8 in vest tops and shirts.

Apparently, this is considered "slim" but yet I feel fat as a pig :|
But I guess 99% of people feel like that.

I fit into most UK12 clothes, in general, but if I went by measurements I'd be:

(All in UK)
18 Chest
8 Waist
12 Hips

Apparently, I have a desired hour-glass shape. I hate it.

UK 8=USA 6 usually
So in the US you're about a 6/8. that's normal sizes

US sizes, by measure, not by practicality
shirt: 7/9 [UK 9/11]
pants: 6/8 [UK 8/10]
Being Reasonable
shirt: 11/13, sometiems a 9 [UK 13/15, sometimes 11]
pants: betweeen 8 and 12 [loongg legs =/ a 9 long would be awesome] [UK between 10 and 14, 11 long would be best probably]

Sizes are soooo inconsistant here, not 100% about how it is in the UK, but yeah...[+i like my clothes larger most of the time]

see here for where i got the conversions (http://www.usatourist.com/english/tips/Womens-Sizes.html)

BeautifulSilence
November 7th, 2008, 08:47 PM
Yeah, it's the same here. I can be a happy size 8 in one shop then a miserable 16 in another lol.

Btw. The average size clothing for women in the UK is a size 16. We've a reputation for being, fuller-figured.

ShatteredWings
November 7th, 2008, 08:51 PM
hey, average US size is around 14/16 [that's uk 16/18]. sooooooo yeahhh.... it's stupid, so really, try not to go by size numbers.

Yeah... they're really inconsistent, because I wear a size eight/ten in UK sizing, but I'm a size one in America/Canada... though I do have some size zero jeans, and even a pair of size fives... WTF is up with that?

AutumnDae
November 8th, 2008, 09:16 AM
In shirts I wear a small (UK-6)

And a 1 in pants. Well 1 long or extra long. (UK-I'm not sure.. It says 2 for conversion which is a 4, so is there such thing as a 2?)

BeautifulSilence
November 8th, 2008, 04:44 PM
I've never seen lower than a size 6, but I know a 4 exists... and to my knowledge, that's a size zero in America... Don't trust conversion sites, all of our sizes are even, unless they're in years.

 I dunno anymore... This hurts my head. :(

ShatteredWings

Sizes here don't go much lower than 00 anyways, then you get into kids sizes

BeautifulSilence
November 8th, 2008, 04:57 PM
Is double zero the same as negative two? I've heard that designers have started making negative twos for their models... Talk about the pressure!

***I do realise that you are probably talking about clothes for NORMAL people. Just wasn't sure if it was the same thing.

Yup. Back in the days when Hollywood was new and beauty was about big boobs, a smallish (in comparison) waist and childbaring hips.

Marilyn Monroe was a 16 (not sure if UK or US) in the famous 'white dress posters'. And she was the biggest sex symbol of the time, still pretty well known these days, too.

Who's up for bringing back new Hollywood?

Pfft. If only I could take my own advise.

I genuinely find that Marilyn Monroes body is far more attractive than a size 0 catwalk models figure. You'll find that there are a lot of people who would agree. I mean, who's sexier? Scarlett Johansson or Nicole Richie? Scarlett has wide hips but she's soo beautiful, whereas Nicole is just a repulsive stick insect :|

People are incredibly superficial and there are so many deluded bimbo's who treat a size 00 as a perfect size to be. Like, there are so many stupid girls who strive to be underweight and have a BMI of about 15, how much more clueless and pathetic can you get? It actually makes me quite angry when people see unnatural starved skeletal physiques as beautiful.

On Make Me Me A Supermodel US or something, a UK size 8 was considered "plus size" :S WTF is up with that?!

OMG really!?! I'm not even considered a plus size... That IS so depressing! I mean.. Wow, I am just super surprised, an 18 is plus size. Or at least, you have to be a size 18 to model for the "bigger ladies" stores.

UK sizings, I'm an 8 in pants and skirts, and an 8-10 in tops 'cause I actually have a bust.
Oh yeah, did I mention I'm closing in on 5'11"? >.> The rest of you girls are rather lucky, and least you have some curves.

Curves are all well and good. If you're a girl. Which is something about which I argue with my chromosomes all the time. :/

So, american sizing guides are completely messed up :|

The singer Rihanna is a UK size 8 in shirts and she says she either buys size 2 or 3 in america. So that must mean I'm like a size 2 or 3 or whatever on my top half in america :S I seriously don't know.

So yeah, basically I wear all the same size clothes as Rihanna does, even in jeans (I think she wears UK size 10 too). So I'm guessing that most celebrities (apart from the anorexic and chunky ones) are around about a UK size 8/10 too. It says all of the magazines over here anyways.

I'm curvy, not fat but i'm not skinny. nothing i put on ever looks like it should.
if it wasn't for my curvy nature i would look like a stick with fat.

and my ass is why too big to be skinny. i can fit 4s through my legs and waist, but my ass prevents such pants on me. i am stuck with pants too big for my legs or too small for my ass.
its a curse.

BeautifulSilence

Too skinny is possible...

I'm glad that you recognise yourself to be skinny, because in this messed up society, no one ever seems to think they're too skinny... Infact, there are people, smaller than you who think their fat. Which is crazy! Especially since the aim was once to be a perfect 10 [UK] and now, people are aiming for below an American 0...

I wear 30x34 jeans. They're a little big around the waist, but it's really hard to find 30x34 anyways. I should wear 28x34. My shirts are always larges or X-larges because I like baggy clothes. :)

My friend literally doesn't fit into a size zero. It's sick! All the other girls hate her for it, because she didn't even try! Haha...... The thing is, you can't see her ribs, and she doesn't normally walk around hungry. It's so crazy!

Ryandel
January 21st, 2009, 07:37 PM
I'm a size 7 for jeans I think

I usually go by small, medium and large

Shirts = Small or Medium or Large
Well it really depends on the store, style and fitting. Like relaxed and tight fitting

Rutherford The Brave
January 21st, 2009, 07:53 PM
29 waist and 40 leg which is impossible to find. Shirts are large just because extra larges just make me look way fatter than I really am.

I'd love to know how that's possiable if you don't have a serious problem, greg. Not trying to be rude, but... um there's no way a 28/30 inch waist (really now, good luck finding anything in an odd size in inches) is fat.. on anyone... unless you're like 4'6 (and i don't think you are.) [then again, i should take my own advice...]

HeatherBreannaa
January 21st, 2009, 11:45 PM
I'm a size 0-3 in American sizes depending on the brand and style of clothing.
I'm not totally sure what size that would be in the UK though.

I'm a x-small to medium in shirts, once again depending on the brand and style.

I have my fat days, I guess.

In the new millenium it is a fact that in the United States of America over half of the female population is a size 14 plus. There is not a problem now that there are beautiful clothes for larger sizes, there is no reason not to look and feel confident with what the clothing industry has to offer. As long as you can get some help choosing what looks and feels best on you there is no reason not to have all the confidence in the world.

First you must determine your body shape. Are you a rectangle, a triangle, an inverted triangle, an oval or the coveted hourglass shape? All these shapes play a tremendous part in choosing what will look the very best on you.

If you are a rectangle you most likely do not have much of a waist line, however this is not all bad. The plus to this is that you can wear most any print or print on top or solid on bottom or vice versa. The only thing that might be suggested would be to emphasize the waistline with a belt or a tapered shirt.

Wow, bumping old thread much. :P

Anyways it doesn't really matter because it's a question that can be asked whenever.

I have lost some weight since I started this thread. I still wear UK 8 and 10 clothes though, which is considered slim. I have those "fat" days more than often and I really hate my body no matter what it looks like but I just have to tell myself that that's not important anymore, overcoming the bulimia is. Yeah I'm not in the mood to explain the whole scenerio here. :/

July 25th, 2009, 06:52 AM
You guys are all so much slimmer then me! I can gaurentee NEARLY that a UK14 will fit, Occasionally I get a 16 in trousers, but that is normally only hip ones or for the lenght (im tall). My waist I can probably be about a 10 but My hips and bust mean I need larger, I am a 12 in tops realistlcy but my Mum shrinks everythign so I need to make sure it will fit afer the wash LOL.

- I know I am larger then the average but I am BEGINNING to feel happy with my size. I won't be the slimmest person due to I am just not that sort of person - I have a large bust and large braod shoulders.

ShatteredWings
July 25th, 2009, 08:39 AM
Oh yes. the shrinkage in the dryer.. thats why i do my own laundry and put it on the line. but yeah i knw that feeling... since i've put on .. well a lot of weight, i'm(mostly) out of womens clothe sizes in shirts (it's hard to find an xl outside of plus-size stores, wtf?). haha the dress i'm wearing is a 2xl (and a little baggy though)

i'm not sure if i care a bout the size number anymore though.. ha i don't even know my pant size anymore.. likee... 34(36)/36 (inches waist/length)

Well I see what you mean but when I first made the thread my main intention was to ask people who may have had an eating disorder or people who worry about their food/weight etc. I don't really like the thought of this being in the fashion forum particularly.

I made this thread a long time ago and I don't really see the point in it anymore. I'm locking this.
