What do you think of the BCS? Do you think it is a good idea or do you think it should be done away with when the contract comes up after the 2010 season.
I personally think it would be nice to see college football go to a tournament like the all of the other divisions in football and all other college sports.

I want to see a tournament, but I want a BCS-like system to still exist, as it could, in effect, replace the need for a "committee". This way they could set up a system of computerized rankings to decide who gets what seed and who's in and who's out. It's less complicated and less controversial when one team is denied entry and one team gains entry, as blaming a committee of coaches is easier than blaming a computer made to rank teams by SOS, W-L, etc.

Yeah, BCS sucks. It's screwed over so many teams.

Yeah very good point. There are always going to be teams left out but I think a tournament is the only way to get a true champion.
I think you open the field to 48 teams and go from their. I like you point of the BCS to seed and select the teams.

Considering how many teams there are in the Div. 1-A [FBS], 48 teams is a bit ridiculous. In DIII, where they have over 200+ teams (compared to 120 teams in DI-A aka FBS), they have only 32 teams make the tournament. Thus in DI-A anything more than maybe 24 teams or so would be ridiculous.
How it should be done: Big Six schools (ACC, Big East, Big Ten, Big 12, PAC-10, SEC) get guaranteed two automatic bids. One will go to the conference champ (regular season champ in the Big East, Big Ten, and PAC-10, conference championship winner in the ACC, Big 12, and SEC) and another will go to a second team guaranteed in based on W-L and BCS ranking (and in the case of the ACC, Big 12, and SEC, possibly based on the winner of the opposite division that failed to win the conference championship). The C-USA and MWC, both considered more or less "mid-major" conferences would receive two automatic bids as well, but would be much less likely than the Big 6 to get more than two teams into the tournament. The remaining conferences (excluding independents) [The Sun Belt, MAC, and WAC] would get one guaranteed entrant based on their conference champion (this way every conference is represented) and the only other way for a second [or third or fourth, etc.] team to get in would be with an "at-large" bid, based on their BCS ranking. Independents teams only hopes would be to have a high enough BCS ranking to make the tournament.
Conference winners with the highest BCS rankings would be MOST LIKELY to get 1-seeds and 2-seeds, but teams with high BCS rankings that fail to win their conference could still have a chance. Based on the fact that, excluding independents, there are 11 conferences, and 2 automatic bids coming from 8 of them (16 teams) and 1 automatic bid coming from another 3 of them (3 teams for a total of 19 automatic bids), they could set up a 28 team tournament (or go as high as 32) and allow 9-12 "at-large" entrants (based on BCS/computerized ranking).

Hey I like you idea. Now all we need you to do is sell it to NCAA.
