Ok so every since I got Zone alarm Internet security my video and sound has been crappy. I can't listen to songs without them being dragged and have a serious echo, and I can't watch videos without having to wait hours for it to buffer and the ones I have stored on my comp always skip now. I tried turning it off while I watched something but it didnt do anything. So yea i have no idea whats going on.

By turning it off do you mean killing all processes relating to it or by clicking the "temporarily disable" button?

I shut it down from the process once and from the application twice. Both times it didn't help at all.

Did you try uninstalling?

Zonealarm almost always gives people problems.

Whats your computer specs? ZoneAlarm can be a bit of a resource hog.

Irrelevant.

If the problem persists while it's not running then ZA is messing something up, not slowing it down.

I haven't tried uninstalling it yet but I will and let you know what happened. I'll jut go buy some better antivirus software.

Not necessarily. Many anti-virus programs run multiple threads and processes for a few reasons. For example, SpyBot's TeaTimer is completely independent. Now, I don't know much about ZoneAlarm outside of don't use it, however you may want to try using the "End process tree" command may prove more useful here, or completely uninstalling it. If you want to see if it runs more processes, check out Process Explorer (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx).

It wasn't really my processes I checked it and close out of just about everything and it was still choppy quality so I'm just uninstalling it now.
Funny thing is while I uninstalled it my internet disconnected.

Yeah that'll happen. ZA filters everything coming in and going out through your net connection. When you uninstall it has to detach itself and that's when your net disconnects.

As far as AV goes, I personally recommend NOD32 by Eset. You can get a 30 or 60 day trial. If you want one purely free then try Avast! Antivirus. The computer shop I work at puts Avast! on every comp we format.

Ok nice my comp has been working better since I uninstalled ZA it's even faster.

I'll look in to Avast!

ZonaAlarm is nasty! I'd rather use the windows firewall than that. I'm currently running BitDefender Total Security 2009, it's rathed the top anti-virus on many magazines and websites, it certainly does a brilliant job.

I've heard mixed things about BitDefender. Never tried it though.

What I like about NOD32 is it's incredibly small memory footprint and it's fast scan times.

I was actually using the windows defender without problems but I figured I might as well be safe. That was a shit idea there.

BitDefender does use a fair bit more system resources, but it is worth it as it does so much.

I used to use NOD32 up until it had problems updating (it was cracked), so I gave BitDefender a try and never looked back.

If you really want rid of viruses, look into a version of linux!:P
I like linux, but having to run Wine to attempt to play games is not what I like to do.

Linux can still get virus'. The only sure-fire way to never get another virus, is to disconnect it from the internet, and never plug anything into/or install anything to it.
