It is weird/unacceptable/not-appropriate/a-bad-idea to give a girlfriend a ring of any sort for Christmas? Or do rings have too much of an association with marriage (not that I have a problem with that, but she might)? If it isn't acceptable, what is a good idea for a piece of jewelry?

Well it really does depend on where you live. If you live in the USA you could try the ring thing, also try stuffed animals and build a bear. :)

Well I live in the USA. So, are you saying that it wont like give her the wrong idea (well, technically the right idea but not yet)?

Well some girls think of a ring as some sort of commitment. I don't think it's the best idea, let's try for a necklace or something.

Well depends on how long you have been dating.
I say if it's more than 5 months, rings are fine. Anything less than that, go for something smaller like a necklace or bracelet. Even earrings.
