Title:After the First Death
Author:Robert Cormier
Description:
This dark tale of suspense and murder gains added complexity with a stunning psychological twist in the final chapter. Not all young readers will understand the surprise ending, but most find the book extremely compelling and intriguing nonetheless. On the surface, this appears to be a straightforward suspense story of good guys versus bad guys. But Robert Cormier examines the thinking of everyone involved. He depicts Miro as a real human being, not merely as evil or crazed. The sixteen-year-old terrorist ponders his feelings about his life and his duty to kill.
Kate, the young bus driver, constantly weighs her options as she struggles to outwit her captors. Even a child on the bus, smart little Raymond, becomes human to readers, increasing the emotional intensity when the hijackers kill him. Most interesting is Ben, the son of the general. We see Ben in alternating chapters as he remembers the incident with the terrorists and as he awaits a visit at his school by his father. Ben appears to be suicidal, but readers don't know why. Cormier gives the book a stunning twist when readers discover that the narrator of those chapters may have been someone other than Ben. The shocker of an ending lifts the book out of a standard suspense genre, transforming it into an intriguing psychological study.

Why you liked it: It was a bit boring at first but it started to pick up and it became something you didn't want to put down.

Title: The Lies of Locke Lamora and Red Sea's Under Red Skies
Author: Scott Lynch
Description: They say that the Thorn of Camorr can beat anyone in a fight. They say he steals from the rich and gives to the poor. They say he's part man, part myth, and mostly street-corner rumor. And they are wrong on every count. Only averagely tall, slender, and god-awful with a sword, Locke Lamora is the fabled Thorn, and the greatest weapons at his disposal are his wit and cunning. He steals from the rich - they're the only ones worth stealing from - but the poor can go steal for themselves. What Locke cons, wheedles and tricks into his possession is strictly for him and his band of fellow con-artists and thieves: the Gentleman Bastards.

Rating: 10/10 It's amazing, so vivid and colourful, he paints an amzing image and portrait in your mind of Locke's amazing, brutul and smart ass word. Red seas is the sequel and is sooooo good. Read them both.

Title: The Sen-Toku Raid

Author: John Mannock

Description: Before the end of World War II, the Japanese Navy completed three Sen-Toku class submarines that could each launch three bombers with foldable wings. The Japanese had plans to use the planes from these submarines in a strike against the Panama Canal, and they even discussed using the planes to bomb U.S. cities. On August 15, 1945, two Sen-Toku submarines (I-400 and I-401) were proceeding toward the Ulithi Atoll to launch a suicide attack on American ships anchored there. However, without ever launching their planes, the two submarines received orders to return to Japan after the emperor announced Japan's surrender. John Mannock has written an excellent thriller based on Sen-Toku submarines and several types of suicide attack weapons developed by the Japanese. The Sen-Toku Raid has the same elements as a great action flick: suspense, memorable characters, intense conflict, and surprising twists. (go here for an entire review/description/etc.: http://wgordon.web.wesleyan.edu/kamikaze/books/fiction/mannock/index.htm)

Why you liked it: It was by far the most detailed book I've ever read. It was absolutely incredible and unbelievably intense. This book made me feel as if I was plunged into the action. If you like action novels, novels on war, works of historical fiction, etc. you will LOVE this novel. It is the most incredible piece I have ever read. I've read a lot of books, and none have compared with this. This book is just off the charts. It is extremely gruesome, has a lot of obscenities (cursing), etc. but its still an amazing book. I've read it at least three times, I'm probably going to read through it again soon. John Mannock is an unbelievable author. Some other nice novels by him are Iron Coffin and The War Mountains; I recommend both of those as well.

Rate on #/5: I've read so many books that I would give 5 out of 5's and this is just on a whole 'nother level, I have to give it a 6 (at least).

Title; (series) A Song of Ice and Fire

Description; The story of A Song of Ice and Fire takes place in a fictional secondary world, primarily upon a continent called Westeros but also on a large landmass to the east. Most of the characters are human but as the series progresses other races are introduced, such as the enigmatic and threatening Others and a towering race of giants from the far north. There are three principal storylines in the series: the chronicling of a dynastic civil war for control of Westeros between several competing families; the rising threat of the Others who dwell beyond an immense wall of ice that forms Westeros' northern border; and the journey of Daenerys Targaryen, the exiled daughter of the rightful king who was murdered in another civil war fifteen years previously and now seeks to return to Westeros and claim her rightful throne.

The series is told in the limited third-person through the eyes of a number of POV characters. By the end of the fourth volume, there have been twenty-five such characters, although these include eight who only appear once apiece. Martin is noted for his ruthlessness towards his characters. By the end of the fourth volume eight of the POV characters have been killed.

Why you liked it; Very political alot of drama and very intense!

On a scale of 5; 5 Easily it's getting it's own HBO series.
