To be honest I think the UK legal age should be risen to 18. Some 16 year olds just really aren't mature enough or prepared for the consequences of having sex.
But as the other's said, it's the law and it's to protect younger people.

The age of consent is there to make sure that minors are hurt or make terrible decisions before they are fully matured. In the US, it is said that 18 is when you are fully matured which doesn't make sense to me since you brain doesn't stop growing usually till you are around 24
