A 14-year-old girl broke free from a man who dragged her into bushland in Sydney's north-west escaping an attempted abduction, police say.

The teenager was walking home from a bus stop on Windsor Road in Rouse Hill at about 4pm (AEDT) on Tuesday when she was approached from behind by a man who grabbed her around the neck.

The man then tried to drag her into bushland, but she managed to break free and run home, police say.

The girl did not report the incident to police until Friday night, after talking with her parents.

The man is described as having an Australian accent, 182cm tall, in his early 40s with a large build and unshaven face.

He was last seen wearing a grey jumper, grey pants and black shoes.

On Thursday two girls aged 10 and seven also evaded abduction after a man tried to lure them into his van at a bus stop in Northmead in Sydney's west.

Earlier this month, Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione told a NSW parliamentary committee there had been a spike in reported abduction attempts - with 247 reports in Sydney in 2007.

"But the most important figure is the number of children taken, and that is none," he said.

Anyone with information about either incident is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

What Whisper said. Cunts like this are useless. BRING BACK THE DEATH PENALTY.

the scary thing about this is that these sort of things are happening closer and closer to where we live. at night i always walk joanne home because i worry about her walking alone. maybe i'll have to in the day time now too?
