I'd be frighted if a dog that big was running towards me, but shooting it was a bad idea. He should have waited to see if the dog was going to attack or not.
But, I believe the cop was acting on instinct. I don't think he was "showing off" to his brother-in-law. But I don't know what the cop was thinking.

That dog did look like a sprint attack rather than a playful jog. Its weird. but shooting was still wrong.

I don't buy the "instinct" motive because he's a cop
there SUPPOSED to be trained to use there guns as an absolute nothing else left LAST resort....In Canada anyway
yet he flips it out and kills a dog for running towards him?

Pepper spray? Tazer? Jump in the car? No, he decided to shoot the poor dog. Why ask for directions? Get a damn GPS.

I hate people like this just like what Kodie said it is a last resort to use guns for the smallest things then they have the nerve to say it didn't happen then change there story and try to keep her quiet damn it she does have a right to sue the hell out of him

Well I agree the deputy should have just got in his car. But the dog did look like he was going to attack the officer. Hey In Boise, the police shoot first ask questions later. It is a tragedy and the officer and County should be held responsible.

Wow.
That cop shot puppy for NO reason.
Same in this country, it's supposed to be shoot only when absolutely necessary
That dog wasn't gonna hurt him.

Well, actually, he did have a reason. He had a huge dog bounding towards him.
I'm not saying there wern't other options, but still.
This cop probably panicked, which we ALL do time to time, and made a bad fucking mistake.
It sucks yes, but I don't think he was thinking:
"Muahahaha I'm going to kill this innocent dog now for running. After that, I will go eat some babies muahahahaha"

Ok, yeah a dog was running at him.
Would you kill a person doing that? People are more dangerous.

I didn't say that...

This is sickening. This cop needs to get fired. He has no real defense to be found not guilty of killing an animal. He's going to go to jail hopefully.
He shot the dog for no reason. Maybe the dog was just excited to see someone? Maybe it was a social dog.

You're right. Also, animals are property, so there's that whole "destroying property" thing. The fact that he changed his story just makes it all the worse. Slightly ironic, as police are supposed to be within the law, setting examples.

I would just like to point out that this video looks a kinda slow motion. I think the dog was probably running very fast, and barking at the same time. hell my dog does the exact same thing and shes looks way smaller than "Bruiser"

Couldn't blame the dog for even thinking about attacking the police officer, The woman appears to be alone at her house, The dog could've been trying to protect its Mum(owner) It doesn't know what the blue uniform means, And technically he was trespassing, he had no legitimate reason to be on her property.
And yes, he had many other options, if the video was clearer you might be able to see whether the dog was hostile or not(through Body language) I hope he gets sued. He's trained to be able to react in life threatening situations he could've handled it better than that. Poor dog.
