Maybe you could try getting a pair of compression shorts and a bigger size jock strap. You can just put the compression shorts over your jockstrap so that it won't be as loose.

I'm not totally sure that's "normal" but as long as everyone is just doing it by them selves, I don't see the harm unless you guys start doing it with each other which could cause a problem.

As far as the jock strap goes you can try putting some water based lube in it. Or you could just have it be tight, cut a small air hole under where your testicals would be or you can go for a bigger size and get elastic.
