You get STDs and STIs from the sexual contact/sexual fluids
When giving oral sex, you receive semen from your partner, and it goes into your body.
Wear a condom and you will be much more safe, but still not completely safe.
Get you and your partner screened to be totally safe.

YES! You CAN contract STI's from 'just' oral sex! The biggest threat is herpes, a highly communicable virus that is not life threatening, but incurable. And currently at epidemic proportions, with 1:5 sexually active people infected!

Herpes can be contracted WITHOUT ejaculation, if an infected person puts his penis in any body opening, you're going to get it. Likewise, for all you chicas, if an infected guy puts his penis in any opening, you'll likely get it, too. And, oral herpes, those cold sores around the mouth, are portals for infection: Any body opening (mouth, penis, vagina, anus, eyes) that come into contact with the lesion (sore) can cause infection.

BUT if you wear a condom, it'll reduce the risk of getting std's. But it's not 100% safe. The only way to not get std's, is to not have sex.

There is a science to this whole deal.
Basically, depending on the 'thing' you should ALWAYS be aware of fluid to body contact.
If yo' partna' got some goin' on downstairs and he ejaculates on you and you got a cut or something. You are totally vulnerable to getting a disease or infection. So I would rather suck on a balloon that have to go to a doctor to tell them that you DIDN'T wanna suck on a balloon.
