Ups and downs, ups and downs, ups and downs, we're going to reach a high point, all those dumbasses out there are going think WHOOPTY-DOO WE'RE HOME FREE, and then CRASH... Our economy will fail and we'll all be fucked... Just my opinion on the matter... I think its possible that this could work out for the next 20-30 years, but then it will be on US to fix this mess and put it completely behind us when we're "grown up".

Up near the St. Louis area the gas prices are always the cheapest in the Nation, like a few days ago gas was $2.18 some where around here.

The demand has gone down,
So have the prices.
Which is good for those of us who have to commute a long ways.
It's gone down to $2.89 here,
So it only costs me $20 to fill up,
Rather then about $30.
Just watch though, around Thanksgiving and Christmas,
Prices will soar again due to holiday traveling.

In my town, gas hit $2.34 this morning but ended at like $2.50

Its nice. Its not a good sign but temporarily its a good thing. At the moment demand destruction in the United States means lower demand overall. Sure, at the moment all around the world countries are using less because of the economic downturn, but once that's over, developing nations like China are going to increase consumption.
So what that means is while consumption will be lower in the US, it won't make prices lower. Its just simply transferred because Americans will be priced out of the market.
This is long term though. Not in like a year or two or anything.

Gas prices going down is a bad sign insofar as it shows consumer demand slowing.
But really this whole gas situation right now is more interesting than anything else. This may be the first period in history in which American consumers are truly starting to change long-term buying patterns (minimizing the gas they consume and, more importantly, buying smaller vehicles) in response to shortages.
To be honest, I'm happy about it. America needs to guzzle less gas.

there's a diesel shortage where I am and its hurting the industry bad
which is retarded because we have the diesel there just refusing to get off there arse and transport it to the pumps
theres a couple hundred thousand liters like a half hr from my house yet the gas stations around us and other areas of northern Alberta are running out of diesel

Mainly because a lot of American consumers are in debt up to their eyeballs and when gas went up to $4 a gallon filling up their SUV and continuing the same driving habits wouldn't be possible.
The American economy is 72% based off consumer spending - spending borrowed money. The government wants us to keep spending and get deeper into debt (which was the whole point of the stimulus package). So when Americans can no longer borrow more money and can't pay the money they've been loaned back we begin to consume less.
Although like I said long term speaking the demand lost from Americans will be replaced by other countries.

Running out? How? Do you guys have price-fixing? That's the only way a shortage can happen. Otherwise if theres less supply the price should go up to curb demand.

What world do you live in where the laws of economics apply perfectly? Prices rise to curb demand on a market-wide scale, after a certain time-lag (since information is neither perfect nor instantaneous). Since the market is global, this lag time of adjusting prices can easily lead to localized shortages.

Our 1995 F350 is about 80$ to fill both tanks but its a gas hog
Our 2000 dodge 3/4 ton diesel is about 120 and gets insane millage
my dads 2007 F350 diesel gets reasonable millage and costs about 130-140
My 98 Expedition again reasonable millage and about 90-100
my mums 99 Camry is about 70 to fill and has good millage
I like our quads there both like 12$ to fill...

GEO METRO... tiny car equals tiny tank.
And I said that I always fill up when I'm half-empty.
Usually when I fill up, it takes about 6 gallons or so,
And with the way my state's taxes are set up,
They actaully charge you said price for 9/10 of a gallon.
Odd, I know.

Why do you have so many cars? sounds like you spend more on gas than you do food or any other common human need. I dont want to sound mena but jez. you could start a car lot. I think our lowered gas prices will only be temporary. The demand went down so the prices did, but when gas is cheap again folks will be on it like dogs on a pork chop thus driveing the cost higher again. I think at least.

5 cars, 3 of which are monstrously enormous trucks, another of which is a decently-sized SUV, for 3 people? Yeah, I'd call that extremely excessive.

I have a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am...usually costs about 40-50/55 when empty.
My mom's 2000 Ford Explorer is usually 40-60...it's a 24ish gallon tank, but we never let it get close to empty...if we let it get empty, since it's double the volume of my car, I suppose it would be double the cost.
My dad drives a 1996 GMC Sonoma (the same as a Chevy S-10). Rather inexpensive.
My mom's other car is a 1991 Chevy Corsica. About the same as my car.
