I heard somewhere that schizotypal was a mild foorm of schizophrenia. Is that true?

It's a personality disorder, schizotypal people are often what evil society might call 'loners'.
And yes it is considered that schizotypal people are at high risk for developing schizophrenia.

Not all people who are schizotypal go on to become schizophrenic. As with most disorders, schizophrenia could be on a spectrum (much like autism) and this could mean that some people are more or less likely to develop the disease.
However, keep in mind that no one knows the cause of this mental illness, or most mental illnesses, it's a very complex subject, and the human brain isn't the easiest thing to work out, however alot of evidence supports genetic predispostions.
