well im working on a micro chip for computers
it is not done yet but it is close
i started working on it 2 years ago

Care to elaborate...? The type of work I'm thinking of requires multi-billion-dollar facilities.

Thats awesome.
How does it work?

DarkWingedAngel
October 14th, 2008, 08:23 PM
well you can get a computer of any sort
preferably a laptop
and there is a special place where u can put stuff like micro chips and memory cards
and u can program the chip
so the computer will have the exact programs you want on it
so u can switch up computers without ever having to switch memory
but once you take the chip out then the computer no longer has the memory
it is sorta like a memory card but
instead it can have the programs on it like vista and stuff
so it is pretty convenient

Oblivion

So you can store OSs on it?
How big is it?
That would require like 15+ GB [For XP, and at least 4GB for Linux]

DarkWingedAngel
October 14th, 2008, 08:26 PM
well agen i don't know if it will work or not
but it is worth a try
it has a 10gb memory
i think

I'm well aware of how computers and the hardware in them work. You don't seem to be very specific, though; designing a chip is impossible without special facilities and education. Are you talking about a type of SSD which you soldered together and programmed the controller for?

DarkWingedAngel
October 14th, 2008, 08:29 PM
well sort of
just a lot smaller
and it can store windows on it and stuff

Oblivion
October 14th, 2008, 08:31 PM
Hate to break it to you, but anything that can store memory can store an Operating System on it
As long as youc an plug it in to a computer...

So it's a Flash Drive? Also nick there are illegal portable versions of some Os's

DarkWingedAngel
October 14th, 2008, 08:34 PM
well i think i know what im doing ok
i have taken apart a laptop and put it back together and it works
ok
i know what im up against

I call BS unless you post pics and source code.

XP will fit on under 4gb, I've done it before.

Post a source snippet then, or at least tell what microcontroller you're using.

What I find disturbing is the lack of any technical details. If you know what you're doing then please describe it in technical terms for clarification.

Okay children, let's not get worked up over this. :)

As an FYI, If you seriously trim down XP it can fit in under 2 GB. I have a small laptop with 4 GB on it, and I'm going to attempt to install XP on it when I figure out why flash drives don't work with it.

Actually it would be good if you told us a little bit about what your doing then we would probably be able to help you. If your smart enough to do this than let it be known and show off a little bit.

Just so you know, taking apart a laptop isn't very impressive...and it isn't nearly on the scale of making your own chip. But I don't doubt you, I'd just like to see more.

Something like this?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PIC_microcontroller

Not to call you a liar or anything, but I'm more apt to believe that you've made this up.

Reasoning behind that is:

1.) You're very brief on any detail
2.) Your level of vocabulary in your posts and wording of them in regards to this seems very limited, and very generalized, so as to encompass a large field of possibilities.
3.) You first post at 9:13pm (Local Time) saying that you've been working on this for 2 years, then you come back 44 minutes later saying that it's "done" and "Does not work."
4.) Others are right, you would likely need specialized equipment to even fathom the possibility of doing this, besides requiring a large amount of knowledge and understanding in this and chips, and computers, among other things. You could make one without some of this, but it would be much more complicated, and you would still need to be very exact.

Again, Not to call you a liar or anything, And I'm not trying to cause any problems, BUT, I feel the need to point out these things. It seems highly suspicious when a 14 year old comes in saying that they've been working on a "chip" for 2 years, and gives absolutely no details whatsoever, besides the vaguest of details which, honestly, somewhat contradict themselves in a few areas and don't make sense, couple that with the unlikely chance that you have all the equipment needed to do this, nor the likelihood that you have the understanding to do this, besides the fact that things like that require a ridiculous amount of preciseness that you're not going to get without expensive tools like I mentioned, and the fact that it took you all of 44 minutes to create the thread saying it was close to being doing, and coming back after that short time, and saying it was done, but didn't work, and had to completely start over again.

Yeah, seems highly unlikely. Honestly you can't expect others to believe you if you set yourself up like that.

Not to say you HAVEN'T been working on one, I'm just saying with the case presented, it seems very likely that you haven't.

Seems like you expected everyone to be all "OMG WTF AREN'T YOU SO COOLSZ!?" and not question it. Then, when people did, you knew you couldn't prove anything besides that you hadn't been working on one, so you quickly changed the tone of the thread to it being a failure, and continuing to be vague.

You seem to know little about your invention. You don't even seem to know what its capacity is. You said you THINK it has 10GB of Memory. Seems like you would know.

Also, there's exactly 3 minutes between you posting that you MIGHT post pictures when it's done and a post where you said it was a failure.

Since it was a failure, and you have to start from square one, what's the harm in posting pictures?

The thing you were talking about making sounds suspiciously like an SD or Micro SD card, in all repects. From what you've presented, it fits your description exactly, except in the case of an SD card, you wouldn't need to pull the entire computer apart to install it.

For the record, you can install XP onto a partition smaller than 15GB. I have a "Micro" edition of XP That I've modified with the help of the program nLite that is only using 1.2GB in a Virtual Machine, and that includes the space used by the VirtualBox additions, Firefox, and a VPN Client.

Also, I don't have any knowledge about making and designing circuit boards, or anything like that. So, some of what I said may not be entirely accurate, but from my stand point, I tried to focus on other aspects of it that made no sense to my from where I stand.

Just my thoughts on this. :) Take them as you wish.

To the OP, if I'm wrong anywhere, and you care to take on any of my points, I'd certainly be glad to address any of them. I'm leaving the door wide open for you to show that you have actually been working on one. It would be quite interesting if you had, but I'm just pointing out the holes in your story as I see them.

Blahages, you are exactly right, except for the requiring expensive equipment part.

It's perfectly feasible for someone with a good electronics/programming knowledge to make a basic SSD with a microcontroller and some type of storage IC. It wouldn't be fast, or large in storage size, but is definitely possible.

I meant in the general sense. I know you can fashion something without that, but it would be quite complicated, and the OP would in the case that this were real, would be more knowledgeable about their invention.

That was just something I threw out there as a possibility. :)

Plus it sounds exactly like a portable hard drive or memory stick to me. Computers can boot off USB drives no problem these days.

And Bill, awesome post.

Have it your way. :-)

I just felt it necessary to point out that on a venue such as this (public internet forum, where people can easily post things that aren't entirely true), if you post something that is in the least bit unusual and have any desire to not be made a mockery of, you've got to give some type of details. Giving out a few minor details that show that you at least have the ability to do something like this wouldn't in anyway give away any secretive technical details that might allow someone else to steal your idea.

I'm sure you could give some type of response that would satisfy our curiousity without the fear of someone stealing any ideas, if that is your reasoning behind not giving out any more details.

Nobody here is asking for you to post white papers or full technical schematics of it. Not in the least bit.

Otherwise, if you respond in the fashion you have to this thread, you have no reason not to expect people say you aren't being truthful. I'm sorry, but that's just how it works.

I'm not saying that you haven't done anything like this, like I've said before, and I'm not trying to belittle you, or anything. Seriously. I was merely pointing out the flaws in your presentation and asking for some type of information that would settle at least some of the beliefs that you haven't infact been doing anything like this.

In a round about way, I, as well as others here are trying to help you appear more credible.

But, if you don't want to, then that's your choice. When people present information in the way you have, they're only setting themselves up for mockery and disbelief, whether you want to admit it or not. Simple steps can be taken to undo that.

Maybe you were working on something, but I don't think it was as complicated or as involved as you appeared to make it sound.

And Bill, awesome post.

Thank you. :P

They already have computer memory, it's called ram, it stores programs you want run so you can run multiplle progras, then when you turn the computer off it's erased.
