From CBS News' Scott Conroy:

(PHILADELPHIA) As the crowd cheered at a Sarah Palin rally this morning in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, a man in the audience grinned as he held up a stuffed monkey doll with a Barack Obama bumper sticker wrapped across its forehead.

The incident came at a time when McCain and Palin’s events have increasingly been fueled by angry crowds, since Palin began drawing a connection between Barack Obama and 1960s radical William Ayers, claiming that the Democratic nominee has a history of “palling around” with a terrorist.

At a rally in Lakeville, Minnesota, on Friday, McCain was booed after he called on his audience to be respectful of Obama. The Republican nominee took the microphone away from one woman who said she couldn’t trust Obama because “he’s an Arab.”

After Palin finished her remarks this morning, the man holding the stuffed monkey seemed to notice that a video camera was pointed at him, at which point he removed the Obama sticker from the doll’s head and crumpling it up in his hand. He then handed the doll to a young boy who was watching the rally from his father’s shoulders. The boy’s parents later told CBS News that they weren’t acquainted with the man who gave their son the stuffed monkey.

I don't believe it is wierd. I believe it is racist.

Well the whole monkey thing is a racist remark as I learned because at one of the local schools last year a teacher told a black kid that he was acting like a monkey. He went home and told his parents who took it racially and got the teacher fired!

It's a reference to porch monkey. So, yes, it's racist.

that doesn't mean that it is racist.
So if you called a white kid a monkey it isn't racist, this doesn't make any sense.
I don't think the monkey had anything to do with this...

i think the main point of this is that Mcain wanted his supporters to respect obama and they didnt like that. As for the monkey, who doesnt act like a monkey, I mean we basically do the same things just in different ways, either way if it was racist it was wrong.

Referring to any human being as a monkey is not a nice thing. We're human beings, not monkeys, and I'm sure calling certain people "monkey" hurts them more than others. Still, that someone is willing to go so far as to put an Obama bumper sticker on a stuffed monkey's head is just absurd. And people booing John McCain when he tells them to respect Obama? That's just ridiculous. Those people shouldn't allowed to vote if they're going to vote McCain because "Obama is an Arab." Those people should be shot point blank. I'm just sorry, but that is beyond racist.

Soccer games all over the world, black players have gotten the ball, and there have been monkey chants.

I think we should have respect for both. These kind of things are not suitable to gentleman.
