I would say the best way to approach your parents about your issue is to firstly tell them that you have been feeling really bad lately. Of course your parents are going to ask you what your problem is, and you should be completely open and honest with them and tell them specifically what is bothering you no matter how embarrasing or personal your issue is. The fact remains that cutting is an outward indication of a very serious problem which you need to address before things get too bad. There is no doubt that your parents are going to get emotional when you tell them your problem, but that is only reasonable considering that no normal parent wants to see their kid hurting.

Basically, be totally honest and open with your parents, and it is going to take sometime and a lot of hard work on your part to make yourself well. Opening up is the hardest part, but once you do so things will get a whole lot better from there.

Sit your parents down and tell them how it began and why you do it and stuff. When they find out they will be very supportive and will immediately help you in any way that they can.
