I was browsing around online a little while ago, and I ran across an offer. Apparently Microsoft is offering Free copies of Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition, Visual Studio 2008 Professional, SQL Server 2008, Expression Studio 2, and a couple other options as free downloads for anyone that can verify that they are a student.
College Students: College Students for sure can take part in this.
K-12 Students: Unverified, but it appears that although it says College Students on MS's site, if you use the alternative verification method below, you can use any of the verification methods listed there, including a K-12 Report Card. It may or may not work, but it claims it will.
Link: https://downloads.channel8.msdn.com/Products.aspx
It only lists a small choice of Colleges on their site to choose from, but you can supposedly use this:
(Alternative Verification:) https://downloads.channel8.msdn.com/...IdOptions.aspx (https://downloads.channel8.msdn.com/StudentIdOptions.aspx)
to verify your enrollment if your school isn't listed.
According to this (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?t=943060) thread, if you want the x64 version, you have to download the Windows Server 2008 x64 Trial from Microsoft's website, then use the key they give you for the 32bit version from the original link above, and supposedly it will work.
I Figured some people might be able to take advantage of it. I can't, unfortunately. I have a College Email, but I'm not enrolled, they're asking for more proof than they were with the Office 2007 Offer, which they pretty much let anyone who had a college email get the deal.
EDIT:
Added:
The email I got from JourneyEd (The Alternative Verification Method) lists these as acceptable verification:
Students just send ONE of the following documents. All documents must show person's name, school name and be for a current session:
CURRENT DATED STUDENT ID
CURRENT CLASS SCHEDULE
CURRENT TUTIION RECEIPT
K-12 STUDENT REPORT CARD
So, this MAY be open to anyone attending Kindergarten (Yay) through 12th grade as well. Just verify via email using the alternative method and upload a scan of your last report card and according to that, it should verify.
