to be honest.. i dont think self harming is a bad thing.. to a certain extent anyway, i mean it makes you feel better, it relieves stress ect. i mean yeah its bad if you nearly kill yourself bcoz you cut to deep or whatever but i dont think its really a bad thing :S.. if it helps then why stop? thats my opinion anyway lol.

The problem with self harm is that it may treat the symptoms of a problem, but it doesn't get rid of the problem. It's a negative way of avoiding actually facing the problem, and anything that prevents you from dealing with the real problem is bad regardless of what it is. On top of that, even causing minor damage to yourself can result in major medical complications. Also, it can be addicting and you may find that you can't stop even when the original problem is solved.

sure, maybe it relieves stress, but think of it this way. You are physically hurting yourself. And that is NOT good.

Well, I'm not sure how hurting yourself makes you feel better. Rather, I think it's just a distraction.
The issue is your feeling unhappy, and the difficulty you have dealing with those feelings in ways to make them go away.
You've developed a bad habit that you're now accustomed to. It would be a good idea to find someone to talk about the source of that unhappiness and give you the tools to finally get rid of those feelings once and for all!

I agree
Self harm is simply a diversion, not a cure.
When you cut it merely makes you think about the physical pain instead of the emotional pain.
And it's almost addicting like a drug.
Once you start it is extremely hard to stop.
There are much safer and better ways to deal with your problems than with a sharp blade.

It is basically a temporary relief from stress, depression etc. But in the long term it probably won't of helped at all.

Yes it relieves stress, but there are plenty of healthier and better ways to relieve that.
Self harm isnt the best way to go about things because it causes yourself harm. It hurts you. It also leaves a bunch of scars that you are going to have to live with the rest of your life, you'll get strange looks forever.
Self harm just gets worse and worse and worse, you think you have control now, keep doing it a couple more years and see how much control you have.

i think what people've said is pretty true. even if it starts out mildly, it can, and most likely will, escliate(sp?)

That's the thing, it doesn't help. and.. um.. dying is bad. (sorry for the child logic) and dying is possiable.
I know what you're looking for here, but honestly, on this website, you won't find anyone who'll tell you what you wanna hear. one of the rules of this forum is not supporting self harm

Self harm can ruin your life. Heather is so very right when she says that it just gets worse and worse and worse.
