The best thing that you can do for depressed friends is to just be there for them. Like, if they want to talk, talk, no matter who what where when or why, be there. Also, try to keep everything easier. If they are depressed, I am sure they have plenty on their minds, so its probably best to help keep drama on your part to a minimum

Most of all, be an escape for them. Be someone they can do anything they want with. Just be there and let them know you do and always will care.

I hope that helps.

Yeah, the best thing you can do is to be there for them, encourage them, and be understanding when they're feeling particularily bad. Keep reminding them that you care about them, that their feelings will be temporary even though it probably seems to them like it will last forever, and if they get to a point where they start not wanting to do anything insist on doing something anyway because not doing anything only makes things worse.

Yup, the best thing to do is to just be their friend. You are not their therapist, yor responsibility is to be a good friend. If in doubt, ask them what would be helpful (or not).
