Right, so my friend has terrible foot odor. So, I am curious if anyone knows any way to keep the odor away? He was all upset about people making fun of him for it so, any ideas?

Try anti-perspirant deoderant on the inside of the shoes, and on his feet. Worked for me.

Foot odors, like odors elsewhere are caused by two main things: Poor hygiene and infection.

It's important to wash and dry your tootsies daily, they're stuck down there, cramped in cotton socks and stuffed into shoes all day, sweating in the dark, dank, warm, moist environ, a perfect petrie dish for fungals and the like, which give off that offensive odor. And, once you get one, they stick around until treated (usually with a special OTC cream like Lamasil), AND the infected area is prone to reinfection, even after it's treated. That's b/c the fungal itself sorta degrades the skin's natural defense against it.

Tell your friend to wash and dry thoroughly, and apply an antifungal cream available at a drugstore.

I agree with the idea above about using some sort of foot powder to absorb the odor that your friend has in his/her shoes. Dr. Scholls make a lot of good products that deal with foot odor, and one product with which I have had good results is "Shoe Shot Deodorant Powder which reaches all areas of the shoe: http://www.drscholls.com/drscholls/productSearch.do?method=doProductDetailsLookup&searchArg=29 Also, any odor absorbing inserts that fit into the shoe itself is another good way to deal with foot odor. The following is a link to the various foot odor products offered through the Dr. Scholl's website: http://www.drscholls.com/drscholls/conditions/footodorperspiration.jsp I also think that GoldBond powder is quite good for dealing with foot odor, too (http://www.goldbond.com/gold-bond-products.html).

I also agree with the poster above that there could be a possibility that your friend has an infection on his/her foot. Clearly if he/she has a fungal infection, then things like Lamisil, Lotrimin, Tinactin, or their generic equivalents are all good products.

Good hygiene is the key to dealing with foot odor, and your friend probably should make a point of thoroughly washing and drying his/her feet every morning. Also, your friend should have at least two different pairs of shoes he/she wears on a regular basis alternating between the pairs so that one pair can dry out while the other can be used.

Clearly, if your friend has excessive sweating in his/her feet to the point where they are drenched in sweat, then he/she should seek medical attention for some prescription strength products or treatments to disable some of the sweat glands of the feet.
