its a shame he couldnt get his dream society together.

if you dont know what it was,

kids studied together and when they had break they would play nude as to be comfortable with the human body and then after 10 years of studying they tested if they didnt pass they were farmers, merchants, ect. the bronze class

if they passed they waited another 10 years to test. those who failed were military, nobles, ect. the silver class

if they passed the final test of wisdom, and philosophy they were chosen to rule as shared controllers, the gold class

...what a horrible society. You fail a single test and your destiny is set for life? No thanks.

Moreover, every society looks better in a theoretical formulation than it would in the real world.

Wasn't the comfort-with-nudity thing more of a Greek societal thing than Plato's?

I agree with oneshyguy. The basic idea of "life tracts" lives on in several educational systems, especially in Europe. It's not bad when it's not based one one test that determines the rest of your life. Besides, this is a great way to quash upward mobility -- not that it probably wasn't part of Plato's intent.

Men played in the nude all the time. There were also a lot of gay greeks. Not trying to make steryotypes or anything but its said that many greek men were gay though had a wife for procreation. Like, take the gym or even the olympics, all in the nude. Community bathes? uh huh. nude
