I don't think PPPs should hurt...I've read that they're painless. Papules generally are, elsewhere.

Anyway, their cause is unknown. Wikipedia does have this interesting bit:

t is possible that the papules are related to the penile spines which occur in other mammals - including primates, such as marmosets. So, the idea may be to make you more fertile and stimulate your partner more. I'm not sure if that actually pans out, but that could be the genetic root.

its not from sex. and its not like some big disease scientists are combatting like AIDS or HPV. its natural, however no one is sure about where it comes from. i have it, unfortunatly. theres nothing connected to std's about it. don't worry.
