OMG!!! i really hate the computers in my school. they are so damn slow and you cant really do too much because there are so many damn filters.

i have a second period study hall so i go to the library almost everyday to do english homework that i refuse to do at home. and everyday, the computers seem to get slower and slower. it takes me like 45 minutes to try to get online and do researchfor some classes. by the time i actually start working, its time to go to my next class. it really pisses me off.

like yesterday, i tried coming on here and it took me forever because they blocked the site. i really dont know why though. but anything that doesnt seem educational, they will block.

do they know how inconvenient that is??? its really bad when we have to do projects for sex ed and stuff. there are filters that block you from getting to the sites you really need. yeah, i know i could use proxies and stuff but all the ones that actually work are blocked because so many students use them and the tech guys catch onto it and then they block the sites.

yeah....i just kinda felt like ranting. but the computers here really do suck.

It's the same at my school!!
Every damn site is blocked, except one time we found a teacher's user and pass, had a fun lesson playing games before they figured out what was happening lol.

ALL the proxies have been blocked and they added a new category into the filters at my school about a month ago so it blocks any "uncategorised" sites. Meaning that nearly EVERY site is blocked until the nerds at wherever decide to unblock it..

I installed a browser onto my pen drive (google chrome) and it managed to get round the blocked websites (Like bebo, myspace, youtube etc) however it doesn't get round the bad word filter.

Yeah my school got the network replaced with new computers and the old ones were trashed, 2 years on and there the same speed as the old ones were takes like a minute to log on to the network and its just plain slow!

We have filters at my college, but we're allowed on some sites e.g myspace etc

Some games sites that i go on are blocked off.

I never went onto vt at school and nor would i go on at college.

On my school laptop, (I'm on it right now) I had to install Fire Fox. Our school does not block this site. Probably since I'm the only person in my school who gets on it.

My school computers were brand new when i joined. But they're all fucked now. And some new ones were put in some rooms, they were nearly as slow though because they all relied on the network.

My school just spent 250,000 pounds upgrading our network, we now run on something called "Citrix". I think what happens is most of the processing is done on the school's main servers, and also all of the programs ect are run over the network, not off the PCs hard drive. Whatever it does, my school computers are a lot faster than they were, stuff runs at the same kinda speed as a 3.6ghz core 2 duo system with a fair bit of RAM does.

Only bad thing is that so many websites are blocked, it's annoying. We can't research anything to do with drugs / sex which pisses me off because it stopped me from doing some biology work the other day. Also, our school filters generally fail, they've blocked all online e-mail services (i.e. hotmail / gmail) including their own email system.

So some good things and some bad things.

Do you know how much it would cost to suit your needs, along with every one else in the school? Your luck you even get computers. Dont complain. If you acess something illegal, or do something illegal, its on the school. The reason why so many sites are blocked is so you can get your work done. I know it may seem weird, but the school actually cares about you.

It used to be so easy to get around filters and to do stuff that was 'against the rules' at my school, but now they've upgraded all the computers, made it impossible to download/install almost anything, and blocked pretty much every gaming site, though there a few sites that you can get on (including one called gamesgames.com, which is interesting, since they filter out the word games... 0.o). They used to not block any proxies, now they block them all. They've made it impossible to install Firefox/IE7/etc. Thus we're stuck with crappy IE6. But its not that bad, and I don't use the internet at my school often anyways. In my MCAS class we deal with Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, etc.
