...mobile (cell) phones is what?

at my school you are allowed to have them but there are conditions. in class they must be turned off or on silent and must be in your bag and/or out of reach. if you get caught with a phone in class the teacher can confiscate it for the rest of the day. during breaks like lunch, you are free to use your phone however you want. if you are a repeat offender over a certain period, the teacher can take your phone for an extended time, such as 2 days or a week. so far i haven't been caught, but i have been guilty of secretly texting in class. me bad :P

You are allowed to have them at my school but they must be off/on vibrate and if they are caught out you have to pay 5$ to get it back.

you're not supposed to have it

it can be consealed on your person, but you're not allowed to have it ring or vibrate, or slip out. first offence they take it and you get it back afterschool. second you have to get a detention & mom-or-dad gets it

Here, you're allowed to have them, but they have to be turned off at all times. Even break and lunch.

...Huh.

^Wtf? Pointless much?

At the schools here, you can't have them in the classroom, period. You can use them at breaks though.

The same thing at my old high school. If the teachers didn't see or hear them, I guess they were fine, otherwise, they took it for the rest of the day.

Well some parents complained that they couldn't reach us, so we are allowed to have our phones, on, without ring, preferrably without vibrating, and we can't use them during school hours. But everyone does anyway. Like the girls with tight jeans have the whole phone int he pocket and it bulges and the teachers wont take it.

Plus, if they ask for our phone, its tradition to say, where is it? And if they are wrong, they can't take it.

If they do take it, you get it from the principal at the end of the day. And if it happens again, parents come to get it, and if it happens a third time, they make you turn it in at the beginning of each day for a month.

In my school, as long as it doesn't go off in class and you aren't using it during class, there's nothing wrong.
Teachers usually take it for the period or day the first time, the day the next time, and probably the principal will keep it and you need a signed letter from your parents to get it back.

We can have ours in college, but they have to be on slient and kept out of sight in the classroom.

Students are permitted to use cell phones before and after school and during lunch while in the cafeteria or main lobby. If found on or in use in any other locations at any other times, they will be confiscated for the rest of the day and the student will immediately be issued a detention.

OH!! She's right, we can use them (and iPods) during non-school hours. lunch is a no-no though

I haven't been in school since 9th grade, but that school pretty much didn't allow them during class. We were allowed to have them for after and before school, but they had to be off or on silent the entire day. If it rang at all during class the teacher would take it away and your parents had to come and get it. And if you kept it in your locker and it rang, a teacher would open your locker and take it out.

Omg that's disgustingly intense.

in my school, youre not allowed to use phones during class. if they go off, they just make you put them on silent or turn it off. if you get caught with it out, the teacher can take it and give it back when they want to. if youre a repeat offender, your phone goes to the vice principal and your parents have to come to the school to pick it up.
we can use our phones before and after school and in study hall depending on the teacher. cant use them in the halls because teachers will take them sometimes. in the cafeteria you can use your phone though, but only if youre listening to music on it. otherwise, whatever teachers are on cafeteria duty can take it.

At my old school you could have them, but you couldn't use them. They were supposed to be turned completely off but they didn't care if you put them on silent. If they heard it vibrate, then they count it as ringing. You couldn't have them out during lunch or break or in the hallways or whatever. If they caught you with a phone they would confiscate it, keep it until the end of the year, and you would have to pay $20 to get it back at the end of the year.

They are allowed, but they have to be off.
I keep mine on scilence, and put it in my purse. I text on it, but If I need to call someone, I go to the office, or a random phone, or I go to the bathroom, and I use my cell. I also have email on my school computer which is what I'm on right now (No spell check) I gots my contacts.

Mine rang in my locker last year, and nothing happed to me.

For my college, if they see it being used or hear it during class then they have the option of automatically choosing to drop you from the class for good.

You guys have to pay to get them back? That's extortion!

Luckily teachers aren't respected much at my school and you can basically tell them it's illegal to touch you, which means the phone in your pocket is off-limits :) it's pretty much the same with ipods, except they try to grab the headphones if you aren't quick enough :P

We are supposed to have them switched off, but most people have them on silent.
And.. if they go off once you get told to switch them off.. a second time they take them off you. (Same applies if you get caught playing with one)

In my school, the lower years (years 7 to 11) aren't allowed to even have mobile phones on their person, or in their bag. But the sixth formers (me being one of them) are allowed to have and use them and most teachers don't care if you use them around the school / in lessons as long as it doesn't disrupt the lesson or other people.

ha, I think I have it worse, at my school you can have it but it must be off, and if you get caught with it you have to pay 15$ to get it back, every time, so you get caught texting they take it up until you pay 15$ to the school! It is so stupid! Why we cannot use them between classes and lunches, I am not sure, but our school sux on cell phones.

We can have them, but they must be turned off and not visible. I got caught with mine and got it confiscated for a week and served 2 detentions. F*CK YOU COACH TRAMMELL. He hit me when he took it. (legal in SC)

Wow. It is?
I've always thought that in the US it's pretty much illegal to even push someone because it can be considered battery and you can get arrested for doing it.
And "hitting" a child is called child abuse. Especially if that kid is 16. That's way to old to be spanked.

Ours is simple.
You can't use it from the first bell to the last bell. A few years ago we were able to use them during passing time.
If you get caught then the teacher will take it and then turn it into your sec. and hold it until the end of the day or the next day.

EDIT:
Umm in the US it is legal for teachers and school administrators to search and seize anything on you as long as you are on school grounds. So they can search your lockers, cars, etc.
They can't touch you though...as in they can't harm you. You can't get spanked anymore.

in mine school we are not allowed to use them during school time but we are allowed to have them in our pockets as long as they are on silent or are turned off. We are not allowed to use them in lunch breaks and if your caught then they will be taken and returned back as soon as the school is over and if this is your second time your caught then you will need to file out a decepline paper and your parents have to get it back. But i am very sneaky at sending sms messages and answering phone calls in class.

My school it depends on the teacher. Some teachers take it and others don't. Also if they completely hate you they might take it for a day or two. But the nicer teachers just don't care about it. And at lunch and passing periods we can use them. High School

In my old secondary school they had to be in your locker during school hours. The idea being that you dont need them in a locked school area with 10FT high fences to stop people getting in. You might need them after school walking home though, so thats why you could bring them.

In college you can have them on all the time, as long as you dont ring out in class. You can text providing it isnt interfiering with your work.

There isn't really a school policy, just what teachers want to do. You can have them at school of course, but they have to be off, although most people don't turn them off. Most of my teachers say "we see it, we take it" but a lot of times that's not true and a lot of times, they just DON'T see it.
When they do see it, they mostly say "put it away" or give you a lecture but rarely take it, and usually keep it till the end of class unless they think you're an asshole so they will keep it until the parents call or something but I've never seen any teacher take the trouble to bring phones up to the office like they say they would do.

We can have them in school, must be turned off or on silent, most people dont even turn them off i usually have mine on vibrate so i can tell when i have a text lol, as far as rules..."see it, we take it" simple enough...you cant use cells in class or hallways, depends on teacher tho and if they in a good mood. get caught once its the teachers, second offence you get a detention and sent to dean, third offence you get it taken away for the year or if your dean likes you, your parents just have to come pick it up.

In my school your not aloud to have your phone on you, you must give it in to the front office if you decide to bring it in, if your found with it, the teachers confiscate it until a parent/guardian comes in to collect it.

In my highschool you were allowed to have them but only on vibrate and calls could be made off-campus. In university (in 2nd year right now), the professors usually prefer if it's on vibrate but if it rings in class, they'll let it go unless it rings for a while, has a really annoying ring tone or many people's cell phones go off. The exception is during tests and exams, where it has to be off and away from you and your desk. If they catch you with one, there's a very high chance you'll get a zero and caught cheating via having an unauthorized aid. There's at least 1 wall of the room designated for people's backpacks and other stuff, so that's where cell phones go - off and in there. A few times cell phones have gone off while in the backpack, and depending on the TA and professor, they may throw the bag out of the room or open the bag up (may dump some stuff out) then take the cell phone.

well in my old school (i attend internet school now)

In the beggining we were allowed them at noon and breaks and such. But had to be turned off during class. but then some teachers said that we could keep them with us if we were expecting a important call but we had to tell them. But if we did get caught with them the first time they would be tookin away and get back at end of the day. but then there was still problems so we were not even allowed to have them at the school or they had to be locked in our lockesr and if we got caught with them 2 times we could be suspended. but we usually had phones in the hallways anyway and barely any teachers did anything about it. it really dpends on the teacher. some just tell you to put it away and not bring it again.
