Help me!

My stupid cd drive wont recognize disks, even when I have one inserted, I get this message:

By the way, I have vista. My drive used to work, but now it doesn't.

That's not a CD drive, that's a memory card reader. Your CD drive isn't being recognised there.

Open up device manager (Control Panel | System and Maintenance | System | Device Manager) and then see if you can see a "DVD/CD-ROM Drives" section, if there is, click the small "+" next to it, and right click on the CD drive, then click uninstall. Reboot straight away and it should re-install the CD-drive.

However, if it's not in the device manager at all, check the power and IDE/SATA cables going to your CD drive inside the case.

If that fails, see if you can try another CD drive from another computer, or if not buy a new one (they're dirt cheap).

It is fixed, but it is at my dads office, because the computer guy is installing Microsoft office. I gotta wait to play Spore...
