I have a problem with scab-picking and nothing I do seems to get me to stop it. It's been a major problem for me and is the cause of most of the scars on my body.

Half the time, I don't realise that I am picking. While half the time I want to see blood or to just be rid of the scab. They are ugly and I can't stand looking at them. I have tried everything that I can think of to try to stop doing this.

Because of the fact that all the scabs I have are almost ALWAYS covered up by shorts, pants, etc. or simply bandages, I can't pick them. But like say I tripped and fell and had a small scratch. Unknowingly, I would pick it.

Well for me, normally I would only pick at a scab if its like big, like a few weeks ago when I got hit by a car on my bike I got 3 scrapes on my knee. And the whole time after they scabbed up I would pick at them...I don't know why though, I think I did/do cause they just felt weird. A lot of my scars are from scab-picking too but I usually don't pick at a scab unless its kinda big.

I don't know if it's the same for you, but when I see a scab I can't not pick at it, I convince myself it'll feel and look heaps better once I've picked it, but it just hurts and looks worse..

I just try to force myself to think about something else and tell myself how bad it will look and that it'll sting if I do touch it.

What helps me is to just pick at it, and then put a band-aid right over top. With the band-aid, it'll heal scab-free, and then I won't have anything to pick at later.

Yup I also pick my scabs. I have two scars on my arm in the shape of an X(two cuts at different times) that wouldn't have scarred if I didn't pick at them. I don't bother trying to stop, mostly because I don't even notice I'm doing it until I start bleeding. I think its just because of wanting to see blood.

Has anyone managed to stop? How did you go about it?

I'm not really looking for the obvious methods (eg plasters).

i dont know quite how to put it but like.. the way i stopped was to make more scabs pretty much... when like.. your arm has been cut a few times.. i didnt really feel like picking my csabs anymore..

i wouldnt advise it.. kinda just digging a hole.. but its what i did

I always used to do that when I was like 10 years old.
I had them all up my arm and a few kids at school would come up to me and prod at my arms and ask "What's up with your arm? It looks weird!"
I used to pick scabs as a stress reliever or when I was bored.
Most of the time I just covered my arms up.

But since I was 12 I started properly cutting, and I still do today.
