Hey!
Before I start writing/ranting I'd like to say that I'm not racist, prejudiced or unequal in any way towards anybody. Nor am I making generalisations or stereotypes - just my personal experience.
So if you feel I'm being racist ect. please PM me and I'll edit this.
Well, the thing is, I'm tired of being treated like a damn Klansman everytime I bump into someone who isn't white.
Every bump is considered a major racist action - like I accidently bumped them because I hate all other ethnicities or something. So then they are permitted to call you any racial name under the sun and you have to take it, because responding would be racist.
Just think about it for a second, which of these terms sounds exceedingly more racist than the other:
A. "Another stupid white guy"
B. "Another stupid black guy"
B is so racist it makes me cringe just thinking it, however A is just slightly offensive. If you were to ask someone why they'd probably answer that the reason is slavery/years of abuse.
This is an acceptable and completely reasonable answer, if you live in the US that is. But who ever heard of a Lebanese/Greek slave in Australia?
Is this like a tradition passed along through minority families stating you must be assholes to white people?
And acting like they're from disadvantaged communities when they have five pairs of Nikes. I'm not exactly rich but I don't pretend I come from a housing project.
Just a rant, please don't just pass this off as a racial attack, try to post nicely :P

I'm Native American, and I have never said anything wrong about any other person because of the colour of their skin. If you bumped into me, I would just ignore it and forget it. But you have to remember that we cannot just forget years of slavery, torture and ruthless killing. Its not that we cannot be close to you and its not that its passed down family to family (by the by the term minorities is offending.) Its because you guys (not trying to be mean) do not know what it is like.

I am a whole mix of ethnics. I am part Polish (grampa be from Poland), German, and Mostly Asian/Indian- and it shows. I got the dark skin.
I guess that CW is of African decent. There are a lot of raciest people in this world, and sadly some of us have to live with it. I like so many people wish racism didn't exist.

>.> pft ethinic is just word, If your white you were born in a cold area if your black your were born in a hot area if you brown you where born in a warm area, Skin color is based on the enviroment and some genetics but mainly the enviroment. O and the reason people who live in hoter areas are black is to protect them from skin cancer and sunburns. So just apply that logic to white skin, white skin is better survivable in colder areas.
So ya i dont look at peopl as say shes white she black or shes from cold area, Nope i know that color is a evolutionary win (and im christian lol) so when it comes to ethinicity or color or race or anything i find it to not be in my vocabulary.

I know what you mean.
It's the attention seekers who make it as bad as it is, seriously.
This mexican girl was looking for somebody to spite just because she was a minority in highschool, so she would tell people that I was a racist bitch even though I'm FAR from that. And she hated me for no good reason throughout highschool.
The people who knew better, being most people, just told her to drop the drama.
People that go to church with her family always talk about how they're way too full of themselves.
Her loss I guess, because I'm a great person to be friends with.
On the otherhand, of course, a lot of people that fall under the minority category I find delightful and refreshing. Most of them realize that we're all human beings, and they themselves cannot stand the ones who try to get attention. We all have our differences... we can't help what our genetic make-up is.
Being proud of your heritage and showing your pride is one thing,
But using your heritage as an excuse to hate people and act superior is another,
And this applies to ALL races.

Oh, I know exactly what you mean!
I, personally, detest people who try to use the history of their people as if it makes the slightest bit of difference nowadays. It's like "Ok, so your great great uncle was a slave. What do you want? A medal?" I am not going to treat any ethnicities like royalty because whites enslaved them or did them some injustice decades or hundreds of years ago.
People are people and if I don't like you, it isn't because you have a different skin colour. It's because I don't like your attitude/personality.
And how is saying "ethnic minority" offensive?
In a predominantly white country, all the other ethnicities are in the minority. In a room predominantly full of black people, the other ethnicities are in the minority.

To be branded as a small group of people becuase of the color of our skin, is offensive.

It's not a racist term. You simply interpret it as racist.

I know plenty of people with different skin colours and none of them deem it to be a racist term. It is simply the way you are reacting to it and interpreting it.

My great (great great, etc.) grandfather came from Jamica in the 1800s as a slave. But I dont really consider myself black. Being Irish(the worst treated whites of the early 20th century), Italian(stereotyped as crooks and morons), Jewish (obvious), and Serb(the most hated slavs) you learn it dosent matter. Racism is retarded. Ive learned people, black, white, asian, hispanic, etc an all be pieces of shit, but not because of their race, but because naturally, some people are simply pieces of shit.

Man, nothing we do changes the past but everything that we do changes the future.
We can't help what happened in the past at all, we can't help that people were assholes in the past.
But if we all start acting as equals and stop busting each other's chops, then things will be great.

And we(as a species) arent assholes now?
Look at the enviornment, 9-11, ect. and tell me we aren't.
Racism, is just a way to make yourself "better" than others.

You really have no idea.
Sugar is not being racist, the term "ethnic minority" relates to (if you haven’t figured this out already) a collection of people whose ethnicity (race, religion, and/or language etc. . .) is not the same as that of the majority, hence MINORITY.
So where is the branding in terms of the colour of skin? Ethnic minority does not label a collection of people in terms of the colour of their skin as ive explained above. To think the term is racist or causes offence would be considerably ignorant and looking to start trouble.
And before you think this is the rambling of a white guy, Im an Arab living in the UK. I AM PART of an ethnic minority here as us Arabic folk are not in the majority, so we are one of the ethnic minorities. it is true and not offensive as it does not belittle me or make me any less of a person when compared to the majority.

Erm, neither do you. As that was a few hundred years before your time. And I'm sure the few African American people on this forum would know/understand, btw. Racial prejudice and discrimation exists almost everywhere, no matter what nationality you are (for example, see below). TBH, I find it Elitist that you always single yourself -- do you think you're more special than anyone else because you're Native American? The way I see it, that doesn't make you any better than anyone else here. Sure, it's great to be proud of your heritage, but come on. What you said above is a load of bullshit. If someone bumps into you? That happens to like, everyone. Usually on the street. It's called an accident. And from what I know, there's not really much prejudice against Native American's anymore. And as I said -- toture, slavery, killings? Same thing happend to African American's -- only diffference is you weren't forced from your homeland to another country, and then sold. Even though I am not a person of colour, I find it offensive you would say others don't know what it is like -- NEITHER. DO. YOU. You weren't there. All you know is the remaining backlash. As do the African American's. Think before you speak, man.
And also; my heritage is German on both sides, mum's parents came to NZ in 1965, my dad's in 1954 (and had their last name Anglicised because of all the remaining upset from the war). Living in a country that was a colony of Britain after the war didn't fare well for them, as I'm sure you can imagine.
And another thing -- during History classes in high school when we studied the Origins of WWI & WWII, we had these newspaper cartoons, postcards and other memorabilia from the era, and because I was raised bilingual, the teacher would usually ask me to translate the postcards etc that were in German. Thus, I got my new nickname, Nazi. Which was really not all that funny.

How so? I'd call it a fact. Everyone knows there isn't a lot of Native American blood left, it's been pretty diluted by now. Stop taking everything so personally.

How so? Ive never been apart of the slavery/torture/ruthless killings of Natives. Noone alive today has. And no native alive today has experienced it. Respect your ancestors for having to go through that, but thats something of the past. Hanging onto it just creates more hate.

I live in a southern US city that's about 60% black and 40% white. And about half of the white and half of the black population is racist.
I understand exactly where the OP is coming from. I'm white, and if I even look at one of the racist black people, I get cussed at... at the best. School was a nightmare for this reason. The public schools around here are 90% black and 10% white.... While the private schools are the opposite. I'm sure it's the same way in the private schools for the black kids. It's sad.
Just a year ago to a couple kids, from the school I was going to at the time, were killed. One black kid, one white kid. You know why they were killed? For being friends. Racism is horrible.

I'm also Native American.
The number of people who are genuinely interested in my culture (even if it's a little condescending) has always way outnumbered the racists. Plus, it's hard to tell whose racist. Some people are just dicks to everyone. But I've had little mis-treatment because of my race.
Pride? I don't know. The culture in my race is pretty screwed-up. Sometimes I think it's unsalvagable without assimilation. There are definitely things about it to admire. Mostly it kind of gets me down. But there are a lot of great folks in the community, and as troubled as it is, that's worth hanging onto.
I don't share Dizco Lemonade's sense of pain here...I feel totally removed from the killings and mistreatment stuff. It's a lot of generations back to me. It's regrettable, yeah, but I'm not personally angry about it. Not any more than any other comparable event, at least.
