Hey everyone
well I've been using the latest office package from Microsoft, office 2007.
Now since I do all my school work on my laptop, including class work I have to print my work off at school or email it to my teachers school emails.
Anyway I had to hand in all my course work (over 300 documents) to my guidence teacher and well I sent her them thinking it would be ok. I got a email back from her saying the files are corrupt, then I realised you have to change the document type from office 2007 to 97-2003 document. Which I find is silly!
So I had to open up every document one at a time and convert them, which took a while.
Another blow for microsh*t I find since why couldnt they just make the 2007 document just save as a normal document. Just when I thought office 2007 was pretty cool

The different file extensions enable the new features.

I don't like the usability of Office 2007 either. Its very confusing even after months of using it at college.

It looks ok on vista I find (vista on laptop) plus I'm only using the very basics of the program cause its mainly just for school work.

And I've heard from 3 different people that installing it made their computers run twice as slow...
I just use OpenOffice. You can save it as a Word file, and it can read word files, so it can use a LOT more files from more people and places that Word can't. And it's free. And I like it a lot better.

It does slow down your pc a lot I admit, however since I found that vista hates everything and everyone I decided to go with their package since I thought there was a chance it might actually work well with the op system.
Yeah open office sounds cool, I keep meaning to get round to installing it but I always forget or something crops up :D

How many computers does the copy work on? unlimited or is the license have a limiter on it?

There's no limit on it. I've installed it on 3 computers since then and all I have to do is enter the product key and it installs with no problem. I'm not even sure if its allowed but if its not it shouldn't let me do it.

Good, since macs are so "easy" to operate I would say that people who are not intelligent enough to use pcs :P
Basic logic isn't it? Its designed to work on windows so its going to perform better like faster load times etc.
Fair enough.

There were a lot of reasons why different formats were created for Office 2007.
Features are one, file sizes are another. Save a document as both file types, and compare the sizes. There's a dramatic difference in a lot of cases.
There are other reasons, I'm sure, but haven't checked into them.
Also, the Techs in a school setting, or business, or anything else like that should be smart enough to install the Office 2007 Compatibility Pack (http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/products/HA101686761033.aspx) on all machines. This allows a computer without Office 07 to open and convert Office 2007 documents to Office 97-2003 format. It also allows you to open those documents without having Office installed.
Another thing, if you're using Office 2007 or OpenOffice, the best idea is to change default saving formats to Office 97-2003 formats, or in other words, .DOC, .PPT, .XLS, etc. for compatibility.
There's no limit on it. I've installed it on 3 computers since then and all I have to do is enter the product key and it installs with no problem. I'm not even sure if its allowed but if its not it shouldn't let me do it.
Legally, I believe you can only install a normal retail copy of Office 2000 on one machine at a time.
Just because it allows you to doesn't mean it's legal.
They didn't have Activation incorporated into their products at that time. That's why they started using activation in Office XP and Windows XP. Because of the rate of pirating.
Meaning smart people use it.

You do realize that all three of those programs can be installed and run on Windows OS's, right?
Also, those are three of the programs that I stay away from, and recommend to everyone I come in contact with to stay away from.
I've tried OSx. It gives you little to no control over customizing your system. It also limits you on a lot of things you can do with other OS's.
I'm not trying to get into a debate here, but it's the truth as I see it.
Point is, some people like one, some like another. Not worth getting into huge debates over. Nothing you can say will change my mind either way. :P
All operating systems have their weaknesses, just as all have their pluses. Just depends on what features your priories are set on.

Yes i do, thats why i said it.
Why? Explian yourself
Yes, it does, a hell of a lot of options, you have to look.
Sorry, I read your thing about those three pieces of software as you meaning that those were things that Apple had specific to OSx.
My mistake.
But my point is, I tried OSx, and didn't like it. It looks too beginnerish for me, anyway.
Either way, it's just not for me. It gives me no perks to use it over Linux or Windows that I have use or need for. The thing I was looking for at the time were nowhere to be found. Don't like the layout of the system and a lot of other things. I also don't like it's way of installing things.
And, as for why I don't recommend those products to anyone, here is why:
iTunes: Bloated, and Completely useless when it comes to being used as a Media player, when compared to something else, like Foobar, VLC, or Media Player Classic.
The ONLY use I've found for it is when it comes to legally obtaining music. That's the only occasion I'll use it.
And, with that point, you can get music off Amazon in higher quality for the same price, not requiring a program installed on your computer.
The inability to run iTunes on Linux is another downside.
Quicktime: Again, Bloat. Also, the consistent annoyance wanting you to buy it. You can install Quicktime Alternative (http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/QuickTime_Alternative_QT7/1049831315/1) or QT Lite (http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/QT_Lite/1182968126/1) which will provide you with the codecs needed to play Quicktime Media, and let you associate them with Media Player Classic (http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/Media_Player_Classic_for_Windows_98Me/1045531002/2) or WMP. No need to install the Quicktime Player.
Safari: It's just not for me. I don't like how it looks, or how it works. Firefox does much more for me, both in looks and usability.
It also has a plethora of Addons, and I believe currently is faster with loading pages. Once FF3.1 comes out, it will definately be faster than Safari, and even Google's Chrome, when it comes to Javascript and page loading.
There's also a few annoying bugs here and there that I dislike about it. One is the fun little thing when you modify a post it changes "Save Changes" to "Vote now" or something else.

I don't see why. Those were all valid questions that I thought made more sense for me to address for everyone rather than just via PM.
I also don't see why you tend to go off on me easily. I'm pretty sure you've done this in the past when I've just posted something normally.
I don't see what the big deal is.

Office 2007 confuses so many people. It saved documents, by default as a .docx file, which older versions of office cannot open.
I've seen it many times, especially at school, people bring in their work from home and can't open it on office 2003 or whatever.
It's damn stupid.. it should give you a warning and allow you to easily change the default setting.

I smell a mac vs. pc fight starting lol.
I didn't even bother buying office 2008 for mac. I got iWork instead. It can save or open any office document format, and is way easier to use.
