View Full Version : Vent forum

Uranus has briefly mentioned the idea of having a forum for people to vent in. I think this would be a good idea because we all sometimes need a space to just vent and rant. It could even be made so that no one could reply to posts to make it feel more like a "safe space" so that people wouldn't have to worry about being flamed or criticised by other members.
What do other people think?

In case you didn't know, when posting a new blog entry you can disable comments from being posted before you submit it. That's a way to post without receiving replies.
Would that satisfy you or would you still want a forum?

Thanks, I did not know that.

Also, TWPR is kinda the place for that. The purpose (ooh this is a change) of TWPR which initially was to "vent" has changed to more of the general forum for random things rather then just being for venting so yeah but the blogs work too :D

The thing against TWPR is that there isn't a way for regular members to ensure no one can reply.
I think a forum would be advantageous because anyone can have a vent, be sure of no replies or criticisms and not have it plastered on their profile.

Hm.
Diary. If you didn't know it if you lock it, [I]you{and other diary mods} can post in the thread, whilst us who don't own yours can't.

Gov Teen has a vent zone.
I think we need one too.

My point is that not everyone has a space where they can post and immediately lock the thread. Not everyone wants a diary, has the time to keep one running or is able to have one due to the various restrictions.

But it does in a blog?

that's because they seperate chatting and ranting.
Carole, I think he's right, if you didn't want replys, maybe don't post on a public message board. A blog perhaps? [VT has blogs ] {add} fewer people read blogs, and they're even less likely to comment unless it's constructive. Or, of course, get a private blog-place and don't tell anybody about it

If you want something locked I'm sure an online mod would be happy to close it quickly. Atleast I would.

I see where this is going. Stupid me for suggesting something
This can be locked now.

But it does in a blog?
Yes, simply because its a do-able option in our current set up.

If you had a diary or if you owned a diary then you could make the thread and lock it. Or as Bobby said, you can get a mod of TWPR to lock it for you.

So your definition of what makes sense is purely based on what is possible with things how they are in this current moment?
I'm sorry, but isn't the whole point of having a Suggestions forum so that members can put forward ideas on how the site can change?
If you had a diary or if you owned a diary then you could make the thread and lock it.
I believe that I stated why it isn't always possible or feasible for someone to have a diary here >>>Not everyone wants a diary, has the time to keep one running or is able to have one due to the various restrictions.

What if it were a private forum and only you could see your vents?
Or only you and select people could see it?

Yes, that is the point of the suggestions forum. But before any suggestion is implemented, such as adding a new forum, we have to look at our current set up. We want to maximize the use of what we have before branching out to something new.
The blog gives you complete control of who can and can't post which is why I said that. So what is the point in having a forum that is closed to no replies when you can post a blog and set it to no replies?
Also having a vent forum means all vents must go there and what if someone wants replies? Then we have two places to post vents which isn't needed.
Most people don't have a problem with replies so it makes sense for 1 person who doesn't want replies to use the blog since that option already exists.

Or only you and select people could see it?That's already possible with the blogs. You can limit to who you can see your blog entries to people on your friends list. Global moderators and administrators will still see them though.
And if you only want to see your vents then why post it here in the first place?

You can just lock this thread now.
It was stupid of me to start it in the first place

To get them out of your system
When you write them out [well for me anyway] you let go of it
Usually when Im about to vent, i write it out, but end up deleting the whole thing or PMing it to someone. Just writing it out feels really good.
