View Full Version : Vista: The stupidest OS invented

My... God... Vista is the stupidest thing ever. First, it goes and completely wrecks itself up, deleting a bunch of drivers for nooooo reason at all. And then we try to fix it. They computer breaks, when we followed the instructions to the dot. Re-install time!
It works fine... for 2 days. Suddenly it decides that it doesn't want to have anything to do with Microsoft Word, OpenOfiice, or any PDF files, and some image files. WTF? Re-install time!
It worked! For what? another couple weeks? Now it's suddenly asking us to register the key we put in... again. And guess what? The key for the computer that we spent like, $600 is no longer a valid key! My mom checked it online somehow, they said it was a valid key... You think Vista is going to cooperate? Not a chance.
So now our key doesn't work, my mom is pissed off (Not a good thing) and one of our comps doesn't work. I hate this.
Sooo.... anybody have any clue what's going on? We need help, I especially, since I might be getting one of the computers for myself (Very needed) unless Vista keeps being an @hole.

This sounds like a trojan problem, not a Vista problem. (Vista is actually a rock-solid OS when used, and maintained properly)
Oh, and if for any reason drivers go missing, or file permissions have been changed, simply do a system restore. A whole lot faster and eaiser than re-installing.
By any chance do you have a backup of your documents and such? Or a second HDD (Or a partion) that's not having Vista installed to it? It's possible a trojan could be lurking in your backups, or a second HDD/partion. Try not restoring your backups for a week or so after the install. If the problem persists, try disconnecting the second HDD after yet another fresh install. If the problem still persists, and you have a second partion. If there's any important data on that partion, save it. Then format that partion. Re-install Vista again.
If there isn't a problem when you don't restore your backups, great! You now know that there's a trojan lurking in your backups.
If the problem stops after you disconnect your second HDD, good! You know that there's a trojan on that HDD.
And the problem should stop if you format. :p
About the key not working. It's from all of your reinstalls. MS has taken note of how many times that particular key has been activated, and has disabled that key. Simply call MS up, explain what happened, and they should give you a new key.
Also, you want to make sure you have a GOOD and STRONG security suite. So this doesn't happen again.
(No offense but...) Almost all of the time it's not the software's/OS's fault, but the end-user's fault. Most software/OSs are built to not have probems. It's how the software is treated, and what it's exposed to which makes it malfunction.

We had already tried formatting. And my Mom did call somebody up. They said they'd get it working. It didn't. And then she couldn't reach them again.

I never had these problems with Vista but mine were equally frustrating. The best thing I did was get rid of Vista and put XP on my laptop. Seriously, Vista is Microsoft's biggest mistake.

Ah, and there's the kicker. We would do that, except my dad's work requires we have Vista to test new products on, and we don't want to double up on that machine as it has enough problems already.
It's like there's no way out.,,

If you are stuck with Vista then do all the things that Jesse suggested ^ It cannot be Vista that is changing permissions etc.

Nope, it's most definately not that.

It can't be Vista that is to blame for deleting drivers. It makes sense for it to be a faulty or malicious file that is at fault here.

I didn't mean to say it was Vista's fault for this particular problem. But Vista is certainly not a "rock-solid OS"

Well, we have already tried what Jesse said because someone else told us the same thing. Nothing doing.

Vista is Microsoft's most stable OS to date. If you remove the Internet connection, Vista has less crashes, and less lock-ups than any other OS that has rolled out of MS.
Connect Vista to the Internet, and it's suddenly exposed to the plethora of malware/spyware/trojans/viruses that have been specifically designed for Vista. There are a TON of Vista-haters out there that make such things. They want you to think that it's Vista's fault, and Vista is to blame for all of your problems, when in reality this isn't true.
I will say again. Almost no problem (Besides hardware/software incompatibilities) is Vista's fault. But rather from an outside source.

Then why did none of that stuff work? We had a good antivirus program, and did a scan with a second one after the first. Sure, it turned up a few things, but just minor stuff.
Anyways... We finally got it working again... after 50 thousand forum posts and a 4 hour call to tech support. 5 and a half counting the wait.
But now when we attach a printer it takes like 20 minutes to load... God.

When you attach your printer, are you installing the drivers right off the CD, or are you going to the manufacturer's website and downloading the latest drivers from there?
You should really only use a driver CD when you don't have an internet connection.

I really am fed up of vista, my laptop has it. I've had blue screen twice when I installed a driver that said on the box Vista ready!!!!!
Also my computer has Linux, Vista and XP on this (I select which op-system when I boot) I use XP all the times and I use Linux for working on my web server but I never use vista and probably never will!
I agree, Microsoft made a huge mistake with vista, it looks cool on a big fancy Hi-Def screen but crap for day to day use.

Tried both.
Yeah, the only good thing about Vista I've seen so far is the look. Though what I've seen of Windows 7 looks cooler. I hope Microsoft doesn't screw up on that too.

See I don't really care how op systems look, since you can customise them, all I care about is the developers making the operating system fully functional!

I'm too lazy to customize stuff...
Use Linux people. No stupid viruses.

I have no idea why your installs keep corrupting themselves. I can say that I've had my share with the 32bit version of Vista, but nothing like that.
It shouldn't do that, and there's obviously something else wrong with it beyond just "Vista being stupid."
If it won't let you activate anymore, it's probably because you're reinstalled it so many times in a short period of time. It doesn't like that.
In that case, you just tell it to activate via phone, and call up Microsoft, and talk to one of the people there, and explain the case, and they'll walk you through activation.
I do it all the time when I'm working on computers.
And, the stupidest (Windows) OS has to be Windows ME, or if you're going on OS Shells for Windows, "Microsoft Bob" (1 (http://blogs.pcworld.com/techlog/archives/001614.html), 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZegWedG-jk4)) would be right up there.
If the printer is an HP Printer, that's not Vista's fault. HP is notorious for shipping ridiculously bloated drivers that take forever to install and sometimes don't properly install themselves.

I haven't had any problem with Vista. Except for when I installed a version from some else's disk but even then I fixed it in one day. This is definitely more than just Vista. Watch what you download and try and use the system restore option. Another thing is why not buy a Vista Optimizer so it can get rid of useless stuff in Vista.
