Wow.
If I was that afraid of the end of the world today, or now, Oct. 21, I would have just waited until it actually happened and we all died together.
But nothing happened today, and nothing will happen in October either.

that was sad but if scientists thought there was any chance that the world would end then they shouldnt have been able to conduct the experiment

A perfect example of people taking the media far too seriously. It will only get worse.

Agreed. The media blows everything up so much, and make things that don't really matter seem like a huge thing. It makes people worry.. and results in stuff like this.
Why on earth would you kill yourself if you believed you were going to die anyway though? Surely if you believed that strongly about it, you would live those last moments of your life.

The media fucks everything out of proportion. I could understand if I was in her position and she was afraid. But, knowing that you could possibly die and then kill your self when you know there is a chance....I just don't know how to end that.

Agreed, the media does blow things way out of proportion. I'm still waiting for the entire population to die of bird flu.

i accidently started a rumour at my school that this guy had bird flu. he likes eating chicken and he had the flu and i jokingly told someone it was bird flu and they believed me and started telling people. ooops :P but on topic, i agree that the media go to great lengths to build these things up when it was all based on the theories of a few scientists. i think its sad really.

Dumb? She was very religious, young, and petrified. Was it an intelligent decision? Of course not. But the combination of her beliefs and what she thought was an imminent doomsday led her to a rashly made choice in the heat of terror. That doesn't make her dumb, nor does it mean she deserved to die. What an awful thing to say. How dare you judge her, or indeed anyone else, like that?

umm this makes no sence to me... why would you kill yourself because you fear for your eventual death. Seems like it would be smarter to take your chances? lol

I'm not saying it was logical or rational. She was young, she was terrified. People do grossly irrational things when they're frightened, it's been proven time and time again. Making a mistake in the heat of terror doesn't make a person DUMB. It makes them human. Granted this was a rather enormous mistake and maybe her terror doesn't make sense to you but still, you have no right or place to call anyone DUMB.

Might I asked that you show at least a little respect? I mean come on, this is someones life we're talking about!
I agree, however i don't really feel too bad for her. This is natural selection in it's purest form.
