I have got tired of buying new ink, so I said what the heck, and bought a one liter, $50 bottle of refill ink for the printer. (My brothers helped) It's enough for about 200 refills of our cartridge, and though apparently the cartridges wear out after about 10 uses, it will save us huge amounts of money. It will cost us about 20 cents per refill now, as opposed to $15 for a new one. Granted, there still is the cost of a cartridge now and then so that's another $1.50 on average, but hopefully we'll get lucky with them.

Anyways, anybody had experience with doing this? And I don't care if you tell me it's a bad thing to do, I'm doing it.I've researched, and I know what I'm doing (I even found instructions for refilling the exact cartridge that I have. :D

It should be arriving in the mail soon. Bye bye, printer ink frugality! :D

I tried doing it once and it ended up being a pain.

I use to it a lot for the same reason. I actually liked doing it to cause it saved so much money and you get to play with ink.

Elaborate? :D

I know, the thing is we are so uptight with our ink usage. I'll freak out at my brothers whenever they are using a bunch of it, and there's always so much to print out. Now we'll finally get to be a little more liberal with our ink usage. We'll be able o print out 500-page stories with no qualms. =D

When we did it we like printed off 10 pictures to see if it still worked. Eventually we couldn't use the ink cartridges again so we bought some new ones and a refill kit and started the cycle again.

Elaborate? :DIt can be messy and when it printed it didn't come out very good. The guy at the office store said I could try it and if I didn't like it I could return it for a refund.. so I most certainly did.

I doubt I would try it again... and I can't anyway because I have a laser printer now

An update on this...

We got the ink in the mail, filled the cartridge up, tried it out...

And it went absolutely swimmingly!

The quality was fine, and the best part is my brother printed out a 70 page document TWICE by accident and I didn't have to knock some sense into it. It turned out to be a wise investment.

Some tips for those who might try it:

Things can get messy if you fill it up too much, so filling it up not enough is much better than too much.

You need to let it sit a while before putting the cartridge back in the printer, otherwise it could get runny, and not end well.

Fill the cartridge again before the ink runs out, as this will help make the cartridge last longer.

See if you can find a refill ink that is made by the same company that made the printer.

Sorry for the bump if it's too big, but Jared says it's fine (yes, Jared is now responsible :D).

...yeah sure, Rex...bring me into this...:P

I'm glad that worked well for you. I've never tried refillig ink cartridges, I just go out and buy new ones...big waste of money, but I don't use my printer all that much anyway.

We rarely use ours so only get a new cartridge about 1/2 times a year lol
