This morning was absolutely brutal because we were doing the 12 minute run in Gym class... I ended up walking for most of it and I only managed to do four and a half laps around the 400 meter track. The issue is I can run really, really fast, but only in very short bursts. Even jogging will bring me down pretty fast. And it was embarrassing too, I must have looked extremely pathetic walking around the track while half the class was able to keep jogging, with the other half plus other gym class watching from the football field right beside the track...

Anyway, getting to the point, would you say you're better at sprinting, or endurance-running?

I'm better at sprinting. I just can run that fast. I hate running. That's why I could never do track.

Endurance, I know how to pace myself.
The last time I had an endurance run in PE,
I was able to jog the entire time (15 minutes).

Track star here, ask any running question you might have!

The trick to endurance is to build it up slowly and consistently, by running every day. Start off easy, let your body adjust to it,then add a little distance, say, every week or so. Forget the nonsense of 'no pain, no gain'. if it hurts, you're overdoing it.

The other trick to running is good breathing. keep your elbows bent, so your wrists are roughly at waist level. This allows the chest muscles to relax, so your lungs can take in more air, which is absolutley crucial to endurance. typically, amateurs run with their arms bent at right angles, so their wrists are almost at nipple height, which constricts the chest and limits air movement!

Take it slow, don't over do it, and be consistent.

I Run almost everyday that I'm free, I just love it. I usually do 5-7 miles when I can and I get that feeling of accomplishment when I'm done.

Sports have helped a lot - so I'm pretty good at both.

my fitness is so bad that i can only go in short bursts. its quite funny really, i can pace myself when jogging to the point where i'm nearly walking, but it does me no good, i will tire very quickly. i'm terrible!!!

I have a twisted knee and lung problems so I can't run to long before I'm in pain. My lungs actually start to feel as if their being stabbed. So I'm a walker/slow jogger.

I am good at both. I have good endurance from sports, and also my sprinting has gotten better from them. I have always been able to sprint quickly.

If I am planning on doing any long distance (more than half a mile) I do need to wear certain shoes. Not special or any, just certain ones of mine. They are comfortable, and if I wear anything other than those my feet hurt, and it causes my back and knees to hurt also.

I am good at endurance and okay at sprinting. I can do quite a while while jogging.

Gwyn, I don't brag, where'd you get that from? It's just fact.

The trick to endurance is consistent practice and good breathing.

Im a boxer/jiu jitsu practicioner so my cardio is good. I dont run that often cuz i prefer to get my cardio training from the sports i mentioned, but I can run a good 5 miles pretty comfortably. Interval sprinting is what really gets me, thats why i do it.

I am manly endurance. But I can go fast for a while. I run every day in the horse pasture which is about 2 miles in distance. I have been getting faster, and I'm gonna run cross country. It relives stress for me, and it feels good to feel my legs stretch.

I used to be a great runner, a great athlete. But I have flat feet, and when I wear orthotics, well, I can't run period, and without them, after only a few minutes of running my feet hurt like hell. And I also have bad knees and my legs are covered in scars, my legs are already worn down pretty bad in my 15 years of existence. I can still sprint pretty well, but I'm a terrible endurance runner. I work on my abs/biceps/triceps/stomach/etc. everyday, but I don't work on my legs much any more; its kind of a mix of laziness and intolerance to pain in my legs/feet (depending on what I'm doing), thus I'm not a very good runner, but I'm still not exactly 'unfit'.

Well, I used to have that problem but I started playing tenis and it got a lot easier so maybe you should play a sport.
