Why does the rep not say who it's from anymore. I know before if you wanted to be private it could, but now it doesn't say the name for any of them?

Just wondering, sorry.

I think it could be a thing that depends whether or not your on the staff. I can see it.

Mods can see it.

Users were unable to see it a little while ago, but I was on the staff then, and have been able to see ever since, until now.

If we could, it could cause problems if somone saw who gave them negative rep.

^^ But we used to be able to see who gave us rep, up until a couple days ago. Its not like its been like this forever.

I can't see it either. I guess that only staff members see it now?

This was caused, yet again by one person who abused it, so we all used it. It happened with the diary announcements, and it also happened with the profile messages.

It's not fair on the majority of us who don't abuse it.

Those who abuse it should lose it, not all of us.

Maybe it was a privilege for people with 2500+ posts?

^^ If it seriously was, it's interesting that we can't see it any more. This is seriously confusing, methinks we need an admin to clear things up.

While I'm not exactly sure about diary announcements, the profile messages were caused by more than one person. And you would be lying if you said you never gave someone negative reputation because they negative repped you and you could see it. So don't take us as fools who don't know what happens.

Anyway, it came to my attention that some members could see who gave them reputation. After some investigating, those in the user group that permitted custom titles could. Now there was a time when all members could see who gave them rep but it didn't last because of the problems. It seems that it was overlooked with that particular user group and has been fixed.

At 2,500 posts you're permitted to have a custom title. Otherwise mostly or entirely you will have the same privileges as a member with less posts.

Some of you might say my reasoning isn't fair but someone with 500 posts may say its not fair people with 2,500+ posts can see who gave them rep or can even have a custom title.

So for fairness sake I made the playing field equal. The only way any member regardless of posts can see who gave them rep is if one day we decide to make it public for members, regardless of post count, again. And that is something being discussed right now so stay tuned.

Okay, cool, I didn't have a problem with it, was just confused.
Thanks for clearing that up!

and another solution if you want to do it is leave your name in the comment, that does mean it could backfire but if you really want the person to know who gave them it.

I've always done that, and it would help if other did that too, for positive rep anyway.

No wonder I could never see mine.
