Basal Metabolic Rate or BMR is number of calories your body burns in a day to keep you alive, or look at it as the number of calories you would burn in a day if you stayed in bed all day . Calculating your BMR can help you determine how many calories you should eat per day to loose weight and how much you should exercise. If you starve your self it actually decrees your BMR making it more difficult to loose weight using healthy methods in the future. It is NOT healthy to eat more that 400 calories less than you burn per day. Here is the formula to calculate your BMR.

Women:
BMR = 655 + ( 9.6 x weight in kilos ) + ( 1.8 x height in cm ) - ( 4.7 x age in years )
Men:
BMR = 66 + ( 13.7 x weight in kilos ) + ( 5 x height in cm ) - ( 6.8 x age in years )

So, 1185.5 minimum kcals per day for me... (I find that to be quite a lot)

after using mutiple calculators (it's late, kay? i don't feel like doing mutplication) i get 1663


hm.. now, how did i put on weight...o.O. cut out cookies...

I'm afraid I cannot figure it out, I use pounds and basically my mind is blank when converting.

I got 1409 calories. I have no idea how many I eat a day though, I pay no attention whatsoever. Makes no difference to me.

...True, the average for women is like 2000 anyways. Besides, when I don't count I probably have twice that amount :P

I got 1796 calories lol so wait, to lose weight better, I should eat that many calories and burn how many? lol I'm confused.

Id eat about that much and exercise a decent amount like at least a half hour a day.

that is exactly it. that's what you need to function, if you want to loose weight, exersize MORE, not eat less
