If you accidentally cut your finger with a piece of metal you know isn't rusty, and the cut is shallow and clean, do you need a tetanus shot?

I'm not positive, but you should probably call and just check. It seems as though you wouldn't, but then again I'm not a doctor.
So I would say call, or ask your parents or something.

When was your last Tetanus shot? If it was recent than most likely no but rather be safe than sorry so just ask your parents.

Just wash it out, keep a band-aid on it until it scabs over, and keep an eye on it. If it starts to get red and puffy, basically if it starts to look infected, see a doctor about some antibiotics and maybe a tetanus booster. Like Thomas said though, if your last shot was recent you have nothing to worry about. Especially since the metal wasn't rusted and the cut looks fine.

Ok thanks guys :)
I asked my mom, she said it was fine, although I do need a tetanus shot pretty soon; I believe Im overdue.

You should have a tetanus shot every ten years, but if it's in the latter part of those ten years, you should get one. I think you'll be fine if you know it wasn't rusty, plus it wasn't deep. You shouldn't have to worry about it.

Actually tentunus is like the rubiks cube of infectious disease. In some cases it takes a large gash to get it in other a small one.

Hmm well it depends on the area you live in, seeing as tetanus levels can be high in some areas but not in others. If you're unsure then go to your doctors and check with them.

The tetanus bacteria really only exists in the ground. It is a common misconception that it comes from anything rusty.
If you have had a tetanus booster in the past 5 years, don't worry. Even then, there are only about 15-30 recorded cases of tetanus a year... and even if you do get tetanus somehow, it's obvious and cureable.
Don't worry about it.
