New computer... finally

You may remember this topic (http://www.virtualteen.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8260&highlight=graphics+card) from a while back, well, now I finally have the new computer. I don't have specs yet, I need to regroup, but it's a $400 graphics card so I'm happy. Obviously, I built it. Well, more like helped build it with a place called *smudge* in my city. The guy who ran it's really nice. Anyway, now there's a problem about where to put it, either in my house or my dad's apartment, he wants it, but I want it here. I'm keeping it here, once it's here it's not really accessible to him. So... yeah.

It's a 32-bit OS running on a 64-bit system
1 gig of ram (nothin special)
AMD Athalon 64-bit processor
Obviously, DVD player and burner
ASUS Extreme AX850 XT graphics card (discontinued the day after we bought it)
Motherboard nothing special, ASUS 64-bit-I-don't-have-the-box-in-front-of-me-so-i-dont-remember-the-name-and-i-dont-feel-like-opening-the-case-right-now

hehe im building a pc now, my case looks like urs but the side has a black x going across of it in front of a glass panel . . and on the other side is a cool hole tha tlooks liek rims where you put the fan :P

And... im already having problems with it.

The drive won't respond. The paperclip-in-the-hole opened it but now it's acting like its not getting any power. I changed the power cables three times. Nothing. Could the drive be shot?

What drive? The DVD drive?

Well, check your IDE cables, then check jumpers to make sure they're not conflicting (ex. Master VS Master) And then try and look in your BIOS setup for any thing that might affect it.

Perhaps I wasn't clear. It worked, but after I closed RCT3 it wouldn't open. I got the disk out, but now is the problem with it not working at all.

EDIT: It's listed in BIOS as a master drive, nothing under it as slave.

They're expensive use custom motherboards and custom cases which you can't fit any other motherboard but theirs into.

well i dont know aobut over there but in ireland they are one of if not the most competiive, in terms of prices, for computers. nearly everyone i know has dell. adn as for custom motherboards and all that i dont plan to change mine or alter it in any way, so i'm happy!

But don't you have two drives? O.o If so, check the jumpers on one of them to make sure it's set as slave.

it WAS working, but isn't now! How could that be a problem then? AND I just came up with the same error message running it thru the burner and the burner still works, it had to be the drive.

Yeah, the drive's shot. I'm trying the one in the old dell for a minute to make sure nothing else is screwed up.

EDIT: Aaand it worked. Same cables, everything. It was a bad drive.

im getting the DFI mobo that supports CrossFire soon and that motherboard itself is 100x more powerful/stable than teh XPS

HDD Support: 4 SATA Drives 2 of which support RAID 1 and 0, IDE Drives > Dells IDE drives
