View Full Version : Disappointing Teachers

Ok, so I'm in my last year of secondary school a.k.a "THE MOST IMPORTANT YEAR OF YOUR LIFE" and I'm getting pressured into doing what I basically can't. I just need them to know that when you've got thirteen teachers pushing you to do the best you can, you're gonna end up disappointing at least one.
One example at the moment would be that I got a (strictly non-signing) part in the Grease production and after getting a part, that I feel wouldn't do my abilities any justice, I'm gonna tell them I quit. Obviously they're gonna be disappointed at that.
I absolutely can't stand not living up to the expectations others have for me, especially when it's someone whose job it is to make sure I can do the best possible...
Who else hates it when the term 'disappointment' is used toward you, by a teacher, or even employer? Who couldn't care less? Feel free to use examples :)

Let me rack my brain...
Okay.
AP US History this last year...
My teacher, Mr.Brown, never said it out loud,
But I knew that he was disappointed in me that I chose not to do better.
I didn't study, take notes or turn in about 75% of the assignments,
And got a solid grade of 'C' all year.
We both knew that I was capable of an 'A' all year if I actually gave two shits.
Don't get me wrong, I cared about my grade,
But not enough to put forth all of the effort for an 'A'.
I loved the class and everything...
I just didn't want to do the work.

That's exactly what they said too me.
It's my last year too but you've got to remember something, and this might sound wierd.
The teachers just want the best for you. Just like parents or anyone else.
They know that someone is going to be dissapointed about their results, and they are prepared for it, there not going to shout at you because you might fail. They'll give you a hug and a sorry.
There not expecting miracles from you or anyone else, even thought they might seem as if there pressurising you, but they know that your not going to get everything you want, you may, and as a fellow compatriot I hope you do, but they do care, and there are always retakes if something goes wrong.
But don't think about that!

I have had this happen to me too. Last year, after having a Bio project due, a social studies report, and a huge math assignment due, i didn't have a lot of time to work on my book report that time. I got it done, but I only got a 92 on it. That's with 5 bonus points. I had my English teacher as homeroom and she asked what happened. I didn't want it to sound like I was making excuses, so I just kind of said "I don't really know." She kind of gave me a disappointed look and then went back to doing her work.
Yesterday my friend was in the library, along with the rest of my English class choosing books for our reports. He wasn't sure what to choose, and he asked the teacher what he should do. She gave him a book, and he was waiting in line to check it out. While waiting, our English teacher from last year walks in and talks to our current one. Our current teacher walks over to my friend and says "I will be expecting more from you next time." She chose the book for him! That made NO sense. She said it like she was all disappointed too.

I couldnt care less unless it was Tite Kubo or any other famous manga artist then i would hate and run to my room and never come out.
For me i only will care if one of my idols said that but if a teacher said that i just think its thier opinion.
