I've been thinking a lot about my ocd lately and I think I might know how it happened to me. I got it about 2 years ago and that is when my friends started to turn on me and I got scared because they were being so horrible to me. I got scared of loosing them because I barely had anyone else. So I think that I started thinking that if I do this, nothing bad will happen. Do you think that this could be it? Do you think that ocd might be cause by some horrible event in someone's life?

Absolutely, though it would possibly be best to run it by your therapist (if you have one, im assuming you do) as they will give you a more thurough explanation as to the cause of your illness with regards to your assumption

No, I don't think you have OCD. You do not develop OCD from some event, it's a chemical imbalance in the brain that affects reality testing. You've developed some behavior in response to this event. Very different.

What you've got is called 'superstitous behavior', you've got this idea or belief as a way of protecting yourself that's come about in response to some event. It's somewhat irrational, as there's no direct connection b'twn the action you're doing and the prevention of some dreaded event, but it's not psychotic, it's not caused by faulty reality testing. You have control over this, it does not control you, if you didn't do it you could tolerate the result without freaking out.

QFT.
OCD can be caused by environmental factors and things like what you have described could very well have this sort of effect. A therapist or psychologist will be better able to pin-point the cause(s) of your OCD than any of us on here. From what you have said, I do think that this could have been at least a factor in your development of the disorder.

And btw, psychosis has nothing to do with OCD.

I think that living in fear of loosing friends could cause more fear. Fear is a chemicl thing and so is ocd.

OCD isn't completely caused by chemicals. Yes, they play a part. But patients have been found to relapse if their course of medication was stopped (Maina et al. 2001).

To give yourself the best chance of managing this disorder and improving your life I think it would be prudent to speak with a professional about behavioural therapies as these will help you long term. These could include cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) or exposure and response prevention (ERP) therapy for example.

I didn't give you bad rep. Since I've been here I think I've only given it to only one person, and it's not you.
