Busy server...

For the past 1-2 hours, whenever I try to view threads, and the Index, I always get this message...

The server is too busy at the moment. Please try again later.
Please wait about 2 minutes before surfing some more.

Yes, I knew once I turned the shoutbox back on the server load would increase a bit. By how much I wasn't sure which is why I never officially announced the shoutbox returning. If it continues to cause the server load to get high to where its more than a few minutes, I'll turn it back off.

Well, whatever Ben did worked, I've only gotten that once in the past two days, as apposed to 6+ times a day

Well this morning the search feature was disabled and the Shoutbox is still here. However, when I first attempted to come to VT it was busy today. So... :(

I doubt less activity would make it act up. Honestly though, i haven't had issues with it really (Hm, maybe it knows that Ben had to pack up because of the hurricane?)

It is probably due to huge lack of activity because of school starting up. I kind of expected this. It hasn't done that error message to me for about 1 week now.

When I turned searching back on I made it member's only.

The thing with our server is that we're on a shared server which means there are other sites on it. So if one or more sites have a spike in server load, it effects all the sites on it.

But our host is free so we wouldn't possibly demand we be put on a server that is faster or has less sites on it. Dotservant has graciously sponsored us for over 4 years and has saved the administrations at least a thousand dollars in hosting costs and counting.

There are options though like going to a paid host which is something I recently discussed with Ben but things have to be considered before making a move. There's no risk being on a sponsored plan but on a paid should money become a problem into the future, the site goes off-line because the hosting wasn't paid. Also, there's no way to guarantee Dotservant would allow us to come back should the hosting costs become too much to pay.

Those are just factors but just know that options will be discussed.
