There are several possible reasons. One that I would say would be that the urge to urinate causes it (at least from personal experience). There could have been some stimulation while you were sleeping too or something like that. It is very very common and happens to most guys though, so nothing to worry about. I've heard that the average guy get 4 to 5 erections while they are sleeping.

Basically it happens during REM sleep and the reason is not really known. It happens to mostly all men several times a night and usually you wake up with a slight erection. To get it to go away you can wait or a lot of men say they can pee and it goes away. SO yes it happens to mostly all men and it goes away after a while

Getting back to the subject on hand. I think that morning wood/glory is caused by the amount of liquid in the penial area. But still sexy dreams play a large role in it.

it is caused so that you don't piss when your asleep. it is not a sexual boner, its a piss boner. when you piss it will vanish. hard to jack off those boners.
