I'm not sure if it belongs here exactly, but if guys call you pretty or say that you look nice, is it just like whatever? Or am I missing something?

I tend to think they are lying if the say I'm pretty or whatnot.
If I don't see it in myself, I don't believe any guy can either.
But that's just me.

QFT! i agree.

I'm not a chica, but it's slow tonight, so I'll add my $.02. I think compliments work best when you figure out what it is the person themself likes. It takes a little more time, maybe, a bit more awareness, but everyone has something about themselves they like (or at least, dislike the least). Watch them, figure it out, and comment on it and you hit the jackpot.
