Hey guys.

My name is Ben, I'm 16. I've got a few questions that I hope someone experienced and/or knowledgeable can answer. I'm going to put the questions in bold.

I had my first wet dream last night (night of 8/23 leading to the morning of 8/24). It was accompanied by a really really weird dream that developed from random to erotic.

I *think* I woke up right after ejaculation, because I still felt somewhat stimulated.

I wasn't trying to get a wet dream, and I wasn't even thinking about it, or anything remotely erotic, when I went to bad last night. But it happened anyway.

I've been masturbating for years, so the feeling, results, etc. are not new to me. I don't do it THAT often though. I'd say about 4 or 5 times per week. That's not abnormally often, is it?

Anyway, I used to think that people only get wet dreams in the beginning of puberty, before they start masturbating. Is this true? It is not normal that I didn't have a wet dream until I had already been experiencing puberty for a while? Other than masturbation, I have been getting other puberty like effects. I've had hair in my armpits as well as "down there." I get the urges that most teens get, and I've even gotten REALLY tall (currently 6'2).

So if it's normal that I didn't have a wet dream until this far into puberty, what else does this mean? Will I likely have another? Does this mean masturbation will be different? Will the urge to masturbate happen more or less often?

And finally, does this signify any particular stage of puberty? Am I "done" with these sexual and bodily changes, as if I've become an "adult?"

Thanks for the help

-Ben

Ok, to answer your question I wouldn't say its abnormally often yet it is less then some people do. As far as I know wet dream do occur because sperm isnt actually being created consciously. I would say its normal they can occur at any time.

Hi Ben from NJ!

Some knowledgeable and experienced answers for your q's:

1) 4-5x/Wk. Sounds Ok. There's no 'limit' to how much you masturbate, as long as it doesn't interfere with your other responsibilities, or you're not hurting yourself, it's OK.

2) You can have a wet dream at any point in your life. Wet dreams are the body's way of getting rid of semen, of 'emptying your tank', and 'warming the engine up'. These things often happen early on in puberty b/c the machine is new and needs to be tested, so to speak. As you get older, the body makes more semen, so there's more to release, and more frequently. And sometimes, it just happens. But, whatever the reason, you're OK. You might go thru a spell where you have more wet dreams, and maybe you won't have another ever again.

3) Wet dreams don't influence masturbation, one is involuntary (wet dreams) the other is under your control. If you have a wet dream one night you may or may not be in the mood to masturbate, but you could if you wanted.

4) I don't think wet dreams signify much of anything at 16, other than you're developing sexually. At earlier ages, wet dreams indicate that puberty has begun and your body has begun to develop sexually. Now, this just confirms what you already know. You're not 'done' with puberty usually until you hit your early twenties.

OK?

No, it's not abnormally often. Some guys masturbate up to 3-5 times a day, and that's not even abnormally often.

Anyway, I used to think that people only get wet dreams in the beginning of puberty, before they start masturbating. Is this true? It is not normal that I didn't have a wet dream until I had already been experiencing puberty for a while?

No, this is not necessarily true. While yes, masturbating does help prevent wet dreams, it depends on how often you masturbate. If you're not masturbating often enough to get rid of your sperm and seminal fluid as quickly as they are being produced, then you will experience a wet dream.

It means exactly what I said above. You're body has to get rid of the excess supply, and it does that in the form of a wet dream.

Will I likely have another?

I believe you might. You body, now that it's maturing, is producing these things faster than before. So, masturbating as often as you did when you were 14 just isn't gonna work. Faster production = More/excess supply = Wet dream

Does this mean masturbation will be different?

It might be. But that's up to you. To prevent a wet dream, I'd have to say masturbate at least once a day.

Will the urge to masturbate happen more or less often?

The urge to masturbate is determined by your sex drive. Not by how many wet dreams you have/how often you masturbate.

And finally, does this signify any particular stage of puberty?

I don't think it signifies any stage of puberty. You just had a discharge of excess fluids. Normal.

Am I "done" with these sexual and bodily changes, as if I've become an "adult?"

That's something you really have to ask yourself. Are you done? Have you stopped growing? Would you consider yourself "mature", both physically AND mentally? Ect, ect.

Thanks for the help

I'd say about 4 or 5 times per week. That's not abnormally often, is it? That is not abnormal at all, if anything i would say it's less than most people.

Its fine, whenever you get a wet dream is fine. Some people never get a wet dream. A wet dream happens when there is too much semen in you, so you ejaculate without stimulation.

So if it's normal that I didn't have a wet dream until this far into puberty, what else does this mean? Will I likely have another? Does this mean masturbation will be different? Will the urge to masturbate happen more or less often? Like I said above, it only happens when you don't masturbate/have sex for a long while, so then you automatically ejaculate. So you can kind of control when you have wet dreams, or if you ever have them.

And finally, does this signify any particular stage of puberty? Am I "done" with these sexual and bodily changes, as if I've become an "adult?" You will probably be done when your 19-20s. Even if you can't really see anything changing, it most likely is. Even if your done physically, you are still probably redeveloping mentally.

You get wet dreams from having a buildup of semen in the testes and then you ejaculate to get rid of the access.

So if it's normal that I didn't have a wet dream until this far into puberty, what else does this mean? Will I likely have another? Does this mean masturbation will be different? Will the urge to masturbate happen more or less often? NOOOO

And finally, does this signify any particular stage of puberty? Am I "done" with these sexual and bodily changes, as if I've become an "adult?" NOOOOO. you become an adult legally when you turn 18. and if you mean that you've become an adult physically, i don't know what stage your in. you'll become an adult physically when your around 20 or so.
