That would be a bit of a problem, having another country in the middle of our own. I think we ought to retain them and remind them that being part of Canada would benefit them much more than them being their own nation.

Fuck no, I'm not pleased about Dion's "green shift" either thats just another energy plan like Trudeau did that left the west bankrupt as it stands Alberta has 75 billion cash sitting in the bank for when our economy slows...thats more than the federal. Naturally Dion wants a substantial piece, Quebec wants a substantial piece, Ontario wants a substantial piece, BC has never asked for any but we give them a few billion here and there to help when the federal gov is nowhere to be found. In a country like Canada, the west is left to take care of itself

Yes and like 80% of Quebec is native land claims and the last time Quebec tried to leave they had no interest in going meaning only a narrow strip at the southern end would leave, and then they can fuck off no trade relations nothing, the United States has already made it perfectly clear they don't recognize an independent Quebec and ZERO trade relations, defense agreements, etc... would transfer over they'd all have to be renegotiated
